One of the big draws to this game is that while there are extremely powerful weapons/armor/items to be had you don't need any of it to progress. You can go from 0 to 100 and beyond with things that can be bought in any standard shop. This is the opposite of what one encounters in many other games in which you cannot get past a certain point before you farm better gear.

Watching increasingly powerful items becoming more and more common I have to wonder if the design paradigm has changed.

Honestly, i've kind of found myself wondering that lately.

For my part? i'll take the gear that i got. Most of it is either stuff that i spawned in when i rolled up. or stuff that i bought or found early on.
I spent a lot of hours at merchants, getting all of my gear worked on.
First major enchant was my armor.

I don't mind the awesome items, but it's a bit of a matter of pride that what i consider my most valuable possessions are items that i did the work on myself(mostly). I spent a lot of time on lines, in the arena to get to where i am.
