The ESP update previously mentioned at http://forums.play.net/forums/GemStone%20IV/General%20GemStone%20IV%20Discussion/Game%20Systems/view/519 is now being rolled out to all instances. Please refer to the ESP, THINK, and CHAT verbs in-game for more information. We will keep you apprised as we continue to roll out quality-of-life features. We hope you enjoy the system!

Re: ESP Updated on 07/02/2020 09:29 PM CDT
Is there a way to abbreviate the "You hear the General thoughts of So-and-So echo in your mind:" line so it is included in the same line as the thought? If not it'd be great to add a setting for this. Something like: "[General] So-and-So thinks ..." I can squelch them, but this loses the channel info.

> I had to turn the thing off, it appears in the wrong window. Granted I'm using the old Wizard FE, but we actually have a window for thoughts. Having the stuff blast thru my normal game window is so annoying I can't use it effectively.
This is actually an issue with WizFE + Lich. I've uploaded ;sesp as a crude workaround but it should really be fixed in Lich itself.

I'm a bit confused on the syntax to create a channel. Can't quite get it to work.

ESP CHANNELS
Will give you the create syntax.
Nothing in a curly brace is optional, only the square braces mark what is optional.
esp create bookwyrms hidden OOC

I am glad I knew the answer. It took me 5 times to get it right, and someone had pasted me an example right in front of me. And I still kept getting it wrong...

I also use the old Wizard front-end.
All thoughts are going through my thoughts window.
I run no scripts.
In the wizard setting:

Compress Thoughts is checked

Suggestions:
- You may want to limit how many channels can be created by one account.
- It would be great if we could add a description when creating a new channel name.
- Assuming the channel list will grow over time, it might make sense to apply some sort of sort order. I'd suggest either number of active characters on the channel (sorted by "popularity") or alphabetical at a minimum.

So I tried to help someone with THINK LOCATION.
What I typed: think on help Looks like you type THINK LOCATION <person name>
What I thought: You [Help]: "Looks like you type THINK LOCATION & l t ;person name & g t;"
Some spacing added to What I thought so the weird characters didn't convert to What I typed.

Should update the Raging Thrak speech:
>For other ways to get help with specific tasks, you can always see about what SERVICE is available near you, or you can wear one of those ESP crystal amulets that lets you magically think thoughts to people who aren't right next to you. Just RUB the amulet, then THINK what you want to say or take a look at ESP COMMANDS to see what you want to do. In fact, the crystal amulet way of thinking is how most people here communicate across both long and short distances.

Overall, I like the new ESP system, and I commend the GMs who worked on it. I think it has a lot of benefits. However, I do wish that the decision to make the help channel OOC could be reconsidered. I prefer to stay tuned to it so that I can help other players at need, but the consistent OOC references--like Lich room numbers, for example--are really jarring. They tend to make me tune out the help channel, which is sad to me because I do like to be able to help.

I hear you, but trying to frame advice for new / newly returned players in purely IC terms would just be frustrating and confusing all around. And, these players would be violating policy for asking basic questions like "what does AS mean?" I think help should remain OOC.

+1 on this. It's easy for experienced players to forget how much learning GS can be like learning a second language, esp for someone that's never played a MUD before. If you're doing something where a sudden question about mechanics will diminish your ability to enjoy the game, there's nothing wrong with tuning out the help channel for a while and tuning back in when you're ready to help others again.
That said, I do think Lich info should be discouraged on public IG channels. I understand it's not going anywhere, but 1. Talk about it will just further confuse new people that don't have it and 2. While I understand it's a valuable tool for many, it's beneficial to learn how to play the game without it (I reference the recent Lich log-in problems to support this). Also, Lich has it's own chat functions where problems/questions specific to Lich can be addressed or private thoughts can be used to send things like room numbers.

I BUGGED this in-game back in August but I still get wonky messaging when thinkin TO.
Here's the bug I submitted with the weird messaging in bold and added line breaks:
>start bug
bug Other;New ESP System [THINK TO] messaging bug.
Both my characters are getting strange messaging when using "TO" or "AT".
Here is the command and feedback for "AT" //think at <name> on help Like this? You focus on projecting your thoughts. You hear the FocusedTo thoughts of <name> echo in your mind:[Focused] <MY OTHER CHARACTER> asks, "On help Like this?"You sense your message was received.//
Here is the same for "TO" //think to <name> EvninsYou focus on projecting your thoughts. You hear the FocusedTo thoughts of <name> echo in your mind:[Focused] Olgretien thinks, "Evnins."//
I have had others think TO me and they are not reporting the same messaging with the "FocusedTo" all as one word nor the other character's name following that.
New ESP System [THINK TO] messaging bug.
>end bug
So shouldn't I be seeing You hear the Focused To thoughts of Olgretien echo in your mind?
It's just weird.
