We are now well into 2013, and past the deadline of January 31st that I set for groups to submit event reports or contact me with any concerns they had regarding their group’s recorded event tally. That brings us here, to the time of year where MHOs undergo their annual round of promotions and demotions.
To the groups celebrating a promotion, congratulations! MHOs can be a very rewarding experience, but it takes no small amount of work to make one thrive. I hope this year you are able to continue to foster the growth of your groups and that you take them as far as you desire to.
For those groups facing a demotion: please try not be be discouraged by a temporary setback. The challenges of running an active MHO can be considerable, and at times demand more than we, even collectively, have to give. That doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road unless you want it to be. This may just be the perfect time to reevaluate the strengths of your group and capitalize on them even more to make yourself truly shine! Also keep in mind that, because your group has already met the length of active service requirement, as soon as you have the required number of events to tier back up that you will be eligible to do so. If your group had a structure that was closed it will be closed for a minimum of 90 days, however.
Finally, if your group has been removed from the MHO system don’t be afraid to try again. Building the initial momentum to get a group going is quite possibly the largest hurdle that any MHO will have to clear. This time, you can start with a little more experience.
