Not sure if known or not GS4-ESTILD.. but:
Is this supposed to be warding players and causing them to you too if you ward them? Just making sure. I ask because earlier I was hunting, got ungrouped by accident and I casted the beacon of courage (not realizing I wasn't grouped) and warded the bardess who then was swinging at me versus said undead beastie. I'm not complaining, I'm just making sure it's working as intended and if not then to bring to attention is all :-)

This has been noted elsewhere recently, too.
I don't recall any mention or discussion about whether 1608 is or is not player-friendly. However, just to get my two cents in there, this is a relatively janky feature and I'm hoping it's a bug. It might not be that annoying (if people are in the same room, they should work together in a group), but it's also that stupid (do we really want the character who didn't cast an AOE spell accidentally killing the one who did?!).
I need to play with this spell though because it's the only KP article on the Paladin Base that didn't get touched much since the updates were released. Just I've been solo hunting. I tried to get some dude to let me go hunt crabs with him but for whatever reason he was like, "I can do it myself!"
>An officer of the Sorcerer Guild arrives and glances around. "Ah, there you are, Vathon!" he says in a slightly agitated tone. "I have come to formally declare that your membership privileges have been revoked."

I don't think there is any gray area here.
OFFICIAL SPELL DESCRIPTION
1608 ยท Beacon of Courage [BEACON]
Duration: 60 seconds
Type: Offense
The Paladin glows brightly as he becomes the sanctioned target of his foes. All creatures and non-grouped characters in the area are subject to a warding roll and if they fail, will only target the Paladin and not other characters when attacking. The Paladin also will ignore Force on Force mechanics for 1 additional target + additional targets for every seed 10 summation of their Spiritual Lore, Blessings while under this effect.

Ah, I stand corrected (or at least, my memory is refreshed!)
Thanks for checking some obscure location like the official website...

In my pally play/testing, I mentioned this and open 1602 as documentation bugs.
1) 1608 was not mentioned as affecting the group in either the spell review announcement during Simucon, nor during the "Now Live" announcement. This is stated on the public page, but wasn't in the forum announcements/discussion. I also mentioned that there isn't a spell effect listed on spell active, which isn't a big deal now, but may be more important if/when Grimmswarm learn it.
2) Open 1602 has the same behavior, and this is not documented either in forum announcements or the official page. As it has limited targets, it follows the same behavior of 1630, where critters are targeted before players, but if you can hit five targets and there are only four in the room, then an ungrouped character in the room will be tagged.

You know, and maybe I've already kind of said this in recent weeks, but I love paladins. I liked the class before (hahaha Raincail is wishing he took my advice to convert now!) and after the spell circle review. And I love Estild for all the dev on this and the mana/spell stuff from a year or two ago (sorry time flies).
Still I feel paladins as a class are so much less bickering than sorcerers. It feels consolidated. It feels like most people that post generally do their research.
I guess I like sorcerers, too. Maybe it's just the classes that attract different personalities...

>>Maybe it's just the classes that attract different personalities...
>are you saying you have a split personality? :D
I had considered to expound further upon why this might be. I preferred the more colloquial joke as it was left, but in fact, it's most probably one of these things from statistics and well, you know how that goes. Self-selecting groups and all. Paladins being new and, for reasons I never really understood, considered janky, had a somewhat small-ish following. Though WHO PROF queries in-game didn't seem to back the idea strongly, so it's something like attracting more quiet or agreeable players, who knows.
Actually my forecast now is sort of like paladins will become more popular and all of a sudden the bickering will commence forever and ever and ever and...
Still there's the precedent. A lot of leading sorcerers can be gripers (not to name names, though I didn't count you as a griper) where as GRIPES or whomever Dgry posts as seems to me as a sort of paragon and...does a more patient and fairly critical approach via attrition. Anyway, I've not the information or wisdom to do such an analysis properly.
So no, that was a nonsense line I pulled right out of my butt you're quoting. Not that you're taking it seriously, nor am I. The above might shed a little more light.
Though, incidentally, Kaldonis is crazy. Like, really crazy. But not split personality, that's way too canned. It's kind of true Flail differs but, well, that's what other character slots are for. I did miss my chance to rant about mechanics and RP for sorcery though!!
Kaldonis has been through so many phases. Actually I don't know anyone who bothers to RP crazy like I do, but that's not here or there (or an insult to anyone who tries, just my lack of knowledge). But the strange thing is, at one point about 8 years ago he was doing necromancy for RP reasons only and at some stage with releases and so on I just saw the mechanical benefits of demonology and gave up. (This is much why I really like Silvean's recent sorcerous lore thread.) But, somehow, through it all, I've now found so much more depth in the demonology than I'd ever found with necromancy for that persona, and it's become absolutely definitive.
It's sort of the same story with Flail, my paladin. His deity selection was ad-hoc at best, but I found some mechanical reason to choose another one and make the effort to switch. Maybe it's just that way of justifying the change to myself, or exploration, but there's something about choosing a mold for a clear reason that has (so far) allowed the pieces to fall into place for my characters where my imagination to invent their personas and decide everything rather 'outside' the game just seemed to fail.
La la la, don't respond to my posts even with jests if you fear an essay!
As of now, I don't see a reason to support a free CONVERT option for paladins. Anyway, I've done my fair share worse, like 2200 PPs to society reset months before the SimuCoin release (and now the PP option, which was fleeting, vanished). But it always depends a lot on the case. The principle of CONVERT is to do it this way and it's such and such RP. Well ATTUNE has the same lines but it's all hogwash we'll agree, but that hasn't made changing ATTUNE even an option...
...but I won't give a verdict as to my own personality...
