THANK GOODNESS!
Speculations, most likely to least likely:
1. 740 review
2. Lore/skill/damage review for 702/705
3. Updates for a handful of other good but "needs more" spells like Maelstrom or Limb Disruption.
4. Purpose to Vortex and Maelstrom Illusions (pssh, who am I kidding?)
5. All of the above???
Glad to hear this Oscuro, I really am.

>MORE COMPONENTS!!!!@@@@!!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!!!
I'd be okay with this, as soon as Sorcerer's get a personal pocket dimension to store stuff in. Which we totally deserve, and fits entirely with Sorcerous design.
I'm thinking . . . upon mastery of Illusions, we can phase into the Shadow Illusion for a private, persistant room! Whoo!

I'll take Kastrel's first two:
1. 740 review
2. Lore/skill/damage review for 702/705
and add my wildest dreams:
3. getting rid of crystal requirement on animates, or at least since we have to jump through hoops and make crystals, we get to refresh them.
4. scroll working guild skills
5. more reasonable alchemy recipes
6. self-cast phase adds to maneuver defense with some sort of lore training
7. demons not decloaking on eating (that was really an unnecessary change)
8. real workshops in every guild. posting on every town folder did not work, the town gurus just don't get it/don't check their folders/don't care. Guild supernodes would be neat, too, in all profession guilds.
9. Disease does something fantastical
In the sorcerer world, doesn't having the least screen scroll count as vortex doing "something useful"?

Demons are being replaced with brightly-colored ponies that can be ridden in battle?! Awesome! |
That would be more useful than demons currently are...
All sarcasm aside, it will be nice to have some improvements to sorcery. Given the huge range of suggestions that have been seen across the forums, I won't add any more, I'll just say hopefully the changes are good.
And one other hope: less components.

Yoooooouuuu.

Partly, this justifies my INCREDIBLE sense of exhilaration for the coming of Savants. I've wanted to play one since I started Gemstone.
Nevermind, just hiring a Savant as my personal pocket.

While I'm wayyy to cautious to use 718 much myself, I know at least a few sorcerers were using 718, in its current implementation, as a primary hunting spell. They were pretty amazing, and its the kind of spell that can get you out of a pinch, and keep a target stunned/limbed even if its instantly killing it.
If anything at that level (besides the ever present Disease) needs an overhaul, its Evil Eye, which I would NEVER, EVER have replaced, but I think some of its endroll tiers need revision. I think a lot of sorcerers would agree that in regular hunting, any endroll between 101-124, and 175-198 is a bad result. Some might be fine with the 175-198s, and 101-124 might be good for getting an enemy out of your face . . . but if you are trying to HUNT the target, causing to run away is not a primary goal in my opinion.
I'm still holding out for a lore/skill bonus to 702, and an overhaul to 705 that is significant enough for it to be worth using over 702. Last night, I ALMOST thought they had already added a 702 bonus, because I killed my first two hunting targets in two casts! Then I realized someone else had hurt them and left them behind. Le saddddd.

Perhaps I should keep my mouth shut in case this is a bug, but i was floored to find out that the new MANA SPELLUP verb didn't actually USE any mana. This is going to be so incredibly useful for non-Voln members after they die to throw up their spells, or if you're in the middle of an invasion etc. Very, very, very cool. Thanks again

You don't EVEN know. Especially Empaths, Paladins, and Wizards!
OMG yes. So far I've had an opportunity to play around using this with my Wizard and Paladin and its awesomesauce with rainbow sprinkles on top!

The usage for this spell certainly opens up a lot of possibilities. The addition of SENSE PATTERN was one of convenience, rather than real benefit (from a balance sense).
That said, 712 using 740 is one option I had thought of.
As is the ability to SENSE PATTERN 4 while holding a runebook and memorized a runebook pattern to memory for circle-less transit, and, on the flipside-
Being able to DRAW PATTERN, using your memorized pattern for the circle-based transport.
Definitely some options, however, the simple SENSE PATTERN is probably the most important.

God, either I'm tired, or I was away for way too long, but was this ALWAYS here?
Sorcerer Base
701 Blood Burst
702 Mana Disruption
703 Corrupt Essence
blah
blah blah
725 Minor Summoning
730 Animate Dead
735 Ensorcellment
740 Planar Shift
Thats been there the whole time right? Or are the shadowy whispers growing in significance. I just don't remember that.

Like, an hour ago:
>prep 735
You begin drawing a faint, twisting symbol while softly intoning the words for Ensorcellment...
>cast
You gesture.
Spell not implemented.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds. (took my mana too!)
10 minutes later, the servers go down.
Like, a minute ago:
prep 735
That is not something you can prepare.
I clearly broke something. Is Ensorcellment a 1 use per lifetime "crash the servers" spell? Hardcore!

>If anything at that level (besides the ever present Disease) needs an overhaul, its Evil Eye, which I would NEVER, EVER have replaced, but I think some of its endroll tiers need revision.
NO TOUCHIE...Evil eye isn't amazing as a kill spell early on, but it's a fantastic disabler long before you can reliably kill with it. At cap and beyond it becomes far more efficient than 711 for killing warrior type critters. Though thus far this year has been the exception, I fear change. Far too often, any enhancements to a spell come with significant nerfs to other aspects of it. If there were any change I could ask for to the spell it would be to allow for the mass version while a demon is carrying the eye. The drop, cast, carry gets annoying.
>I know its probably not high on anyones list but I always thought Torment could be a really neat spell for us. As of now 718 (for me anyway) is really never used, so that would be a wish list item.
>you should learn how to use it properly. got me through a lot of levels
I'll second this. Torment isn't the best spell for all critters (especially not the undead) but it's a devistatingly powerful spell. It certainly isn't the big stick Aspen is looking for, but I personally enjoy the mechanics, and against the right set of critters it's truly fun and extremely useful. It likely got me through some of the levels that were very unfun for me pre-cap. I'll take it over focused maelstrom any day of the week.
Speaking of which...I should see how it works on elementals...probably not well. Anyone else tried this?

As for 735 i figured it was just a placeholder.
I like 717, at least i like the idea that sometime in the future I will be able to use it during hunting. I got a taste of it during the krol invasion of the landing since krol TDs were very very low.
As for 718 iv used it and its fun. I think the cycles could be speed up a bit though.
