This is a TEMPORARY enhancement feature which allows the Wizard to grant Enchantment bonuses to equipment with or without previous and active enhancements. I'm fond of the idea really branching for more than just AS/DS et's but for typical enhancives, like +1 AUR on an item or +2 Spell Aim Ranks, etc. If Wizards can add a rank here or there, a new business opens up and a lot of trade with huge utilitarian variety comes along with it! Maybe somehow giving the option to the very very skilled and powerful Wizard with "Enhance Item" the power to make an item non-crumbly from crumbly.

Say an adventurer comes up to a Mage and instead of wanting a 902 they want an 'Enhancement'. The sword they give over has a +25 and is blessable. You cast at it and a temporary enhancement +12 to the wielder's AS for 167 swings comes up because you are an 85th level Wizard and that's with Lore Bonus, you are trained for it and you rolled well. To do this takes all your mana and requires a rest time equivalent to the number of swings=seconds. Another day the same adventurer strolls up and asks you to help out with his armor. It has a temporary crit padding and 6x Enchant. He is asking for a temporary boost to his DS. Because of the crit padding, your boost will be cut to 1/3 of what it otherwise would and you can only cast yours successfully because the crit padding itself is temporary - you cannot work with permanent padding. You give it all you've got and wind up with a +4 for 37 hits!

I like the idea that the Mage can get a pure enough high end stone and use it to make more ordinary enhancives like +4 to AUR or +12 to SWIMMING ranks, etc. For example a perfect diamond can be magically changed into an object which will sprinkle to dust when rubbed on an item. If the stones are combined with the same enhancive quality in each, they combine into one bigger pulsating stone which turns to dust once the magic has been removed on the object they intensify. So for example the Mage has 5 perfect diamonds made that way from a bard on a recent OTF hunt with him. The Wizard uses the ENHANCE ITEM spell and wants additional DEX Stat increases. Each of the five diamonds he successfully uses the spell with until they are now the largest one pulsating Enhancing stone can be (5 at a time, imaginary limit here). He takes out an earring which is a blank imbeddable and rubs the pulsating stone into the earring which he has prepped like using Imbed Item with. The stone pours off into sparkling diamond dust as the magic wraps itself into the earring which after a minute or two has got the temporary feature of +3 to DEX in the earring which is all the earring can hold. The timing is a bit mysterious but messaging from the earring says that it will be 'a good while'. You might have 5 hours per gem of the enhancive working (while it's being worn/active).

I know this is a bit over the top probably for some and Balance monitors will potentially have a hernia but it does make sense for Wizards and it would be pretty interesting. Once a day casts is a thought or maybe more like Mana Spellups have. The temporary items came long after Wizards were designed and maybe they learned?
