Overcoming the 15/15/15 rule on 06/02/2011 06:02 AM CDT

I have a battle axe that I plan to alter. I've got a show all worked out (under 500 chars), but the the short 15/15/15 description is giving me fits. I bought an old coffin-wood shield to make the haft from, but "coffin-wood-hafted" is both cumbersome due to all the hyphens, and also exceeds 15 chars. "Coffinwood-hafted" also exceeds 15 chars. I'm also opting for "executioner's axe", which also exceeds 15 chars. My preference is "headsman's axe" which I've gotten a couple of times in the past. Though it isn't one of the approved nouns for a battle axe, it is under 15 chars. I'd like to have a size/condition descriptor in the first 15, the haft in the next 15, and the noun in the last 15. If the 15/15/15 rule is hard and fast, is there any way to get what I'm wanting? Thanks.

The 15/15/15 rule is just that, a rule. It cannot, in fact, be broken. The fields that store the article, adjective, and noun are each exactly 15 characters in length. You can typically use a long description to overcome the rule, but since you're planning on a show description, that option is out.

Also, as a note, it will be unlikely that you will be able to have the haft made out of "coffin wood", as that isn't any actual type of wood and a coffin could be made out of any kind of wood.

Also, only the noun itself can go in the last 15. So if you want an "executioner's axe", only "axe" will go in the last 15 for the noun. Executioner's would have to be part of the adjective.
