Can an Ancient Greater Water Elemental be a lower level than a normal greater water elemental? Or does 720 not give me my trophy?
That thing was super peeved off too, it wasn't easy to take down. Took me 3 tries, getting two 10 round stuns, each forcing me to go back and get healed before I finally killed it. It's not the first one I've killed and noticed I didn't get credit for it.

Yes.
Greater water elementals are base 105, which means they can be anything from 100-110 under normal circumstances. I think ancient gets an extra 5 levels which puts it between 105 and 115. So if your top one was 110, which seems quite likely if you've been hunting them a bit, you'd need to get an above average ancient to displace it.

I've always assumed that ancient/grizzled monsters spawn at base level +5. If that's the way it works, then you would expect the next normal spawn at base level +5 to replace the ancient/grizzled spawn of the same level.
Regardless, I've never been able to keep an ancient lich as my profile foe, so I feel your pain!
