I bought a feature concealing robes in hopes to get it altered into a jacket or cloak.

"some flare-sleeved dark crimson silk robes"

Now I understand the jacket noun was turned down, but why would a cloak be turned down as well? The GameHost said someone peeked at it while he was writing my referral and that it "had to remain robes". Would the original GM who created it put this restriction on it and why wouldn't it be in the ANALYZE? Again, I understand why requesting it to be a jacket be declined, but robes and cloaks are worn similarly.

Just curious. I paid hefty for these.

Similarly, yes, but different.

I believe Robes are usually AsG0 (so worn in the 'armor' slot), while a cloak is usually a functional [pocketed] item worn on the shoulders.

I'm not sure I see why making this into some sort of a cloak would be much of an issue either (unless they simply don't want to change robes to cloaks and vice-versa).

In my playershop as of this morning:

a hooded oxblood wool greatcloak fastened by a fragrant cedar medallion.
You could wear the greatcloak around your chest.

You determine that the oxblood wool greatcloak is an armor concealing garment that will hide soft leather, rigid leather, chain mail and plate mail armor which covers torso, arms, legs and head when it is worn.

Which, again, is not either of the two things we're already looking at: this is an armor concealer, which is different from an armor-worn, uhhh, armor, and a shoulder-worn container.
Too, being a greatcloak, arguably larger in size than a regular cloak (which also stands to some reason, given than it's worn over stuff to conceal stuff).

My mistake! I somehow managed to misread feature concealer as armor concealer.

I'm practicing my spam skimming skills for when I open my locker. It looks like more practice is needed! :p

That said, maybe if you went for greatcloak vs. cloak the issue might be resolved.

I have an armor concealer as well that got altered to a travelers cloak with no issues. I'd even go for greatcloak if that is what has to be done. Just for RP reasons, I wanted it a jacket or cloak. It's worn over the shoulders type thing. I'd just like to get confirmation from an alter GM about this.

That logic doesn't really work Krakii... Robes themselves can come in both armor and pocketed shoulder worn containers varieties. I've got both types on various characters. So, no reason "cloak" couldn't come in both varieties as well.

The underlying reasoning is that:
Armor shall remain something that looks like proper armor.
Clothing shall remain something that looks like proper clothing.

Therefore, there should be no linen shirts that are armor, and no sets of full plate that are cloaks. Not to say that the linen shirt as armor has not happened in the past, but the current guidelines are that it would not happen in the present.

"Robe" and "robes" occupy a strange space because they could work for either category, but something like a "cloak" could only work as clothing, and not as armor.

In related news, I've been working on an armor alteration document for quite some time, I'll see if I can kick it along in the next few weeks or so.

If it doesn't already, might I recommend miscellaneous/arm/leg/head/etc armor spot options also, beyond just actual armor.

Tamuz,

But this isn't armor. When I wear it, it doesn't tell me "you can only wear one of these types" or however it is put. It actually fits over or alongside my armor. I always do the sort verb to make things look orderly when someone LOOKs at me.

There are a number of scripts that require an item to have one specific noun due to their messaging and/or functionality.

This could be one of those cases.

I appreciate the responses from both GMs. I won't argue it and keep it "robes". I'll also continue looking for some a feature concealer that is scripted with the cloak noun. :)
