July is Roleplaying Awareness Month. Okay, not really. But during Hot Summer Nights this year it is! Throughout the month, we'll be tallying up the number of RPA modifiers you receive (the ones that multiply the number of exp you earn per tick). This is a perfect time to define who your characters are! Show us what you got! See someone displaying outstanding roleplaying skills, be sure to ROLEPLAY NOMINATE them!
At the end of the month, we'll announce the numbers! But that's not all. The top 20 characters will win a General Alteration, Lightening, or Deepening (GALD). The top 10 characters will win a premade signature verb, spell prep, or logon/logoff (the same list offered at our Summit Expression Faire). The first place winner will also win a $20 Box Office credit to be used at any event or quest we offer and a custom signature verb or custom way to swear.
Remember to have fun and enjoy yourself. Roleplay responsibly!

We've run this at previous HSNs as well. There was more player event support in the listing if you find it, but that was well before the days of the support we give CHEs/MHOs and calendared items from players. So we don't feel it's necessary to push for event listings like we had to in the earlier HSN years.
As a side note, I'd also love it if our high-end inventory could be awarded in events dealing with roleplay. But as you pointed out, it would end in tears and tantrums.

| Will there be checks and balances so that friends don't sit there and roleplay nominate their own little group to the top? I think it would be a good idea so that you can only receive an award from an account/person, one time. |
Each instance of ROLEPLAY NOMINATE requires a GM to actually look into the situation. It's their decision if the role playing warrants a reward. And since we have to manually investigate each report, it's fairly obvious if the same people keep nominating each other.

I actually think this is a good idea, although as a non-US based player who tends to be awake when much of the Elanthian world is snoozing - with the exception of some perennial insomniacs - (you know who you are) - am not sure I could benefit. (Admittedly I've not been around much recently anyway)

I'm bringing my A-game. The point is to get us out and mingling and I get it so I'll be doing it with more effort all around myself. I hope everyone embraces that embodiment of what HSN means. HSN was always a big deal and this is awesome in the summer to play, relax and enjoy when everyone is bringing their best and enjoying themselves.
I mean this in a totally sincere way: roleplay is its own reward.
Coming up with an attitude you like to play, a look for your character, it gets you excited to jot down ideas for alterations, it gets you excited to play and flex your muscles, and the positive feedback from the PLAY gets you excited to do it again.
I'm like anyone else, I fall into ruts where I grind, but an idea of a character and believing in that person and inhabiting him/her becomes much more of a reward than anything tangible. (Except pinworn 10x db.)

The problem with me posting before going to bed is that it has am impact on my dreams. I had what was probably one of the most vivid Bremerial dreams ever. Weird and very unpostable. Haha.
Eulogia, I do agree with you in part. Role play is - or should be - it's own reward. If Bremerial is in the lands, she won't be any different to the way she always is. In my head, she is a set way, and that's the way I play her. And she is how people expect her to be...and hunting, ale drinking, over jovial dwarf with an outward and vocal suspicion of the dwarven Borthuum hierarchy on Teras but with an inward deference to it.
I have the personal misfortune to love with a passion one particular island - and God I do love Teras Isle - but to play at weird times that are out of sync with many other of the inhabitants. So I do feel sometimes like I've regressed 40 odd years to the kid in the attic playing on her own with her dolls and creating fantastic adventures in her own head.
However if this contest can get some folk into a pattern of role playing, or encourage more of it, or to focus on those aspects of their charchter that makes the unique, then it's well worth running. For me personally, i'll keep plodding away with Brem. But I'm definitely going to be looking to nominate folk who bring their A game - as Firephoenix put it - or who better still, continue to bring the A game I know and love! You're gonna' have to be on Teras though. Bremerial 'ain't budging from that Island except for specific reasons. And ye', that's a role play thing! :D
