I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to get reps for creating locks. The task is to:

>>Go make yerself some locks that are pretty good for what you can do.

What does pretty good for what I can do mean? Pretty good for a lock I can pick? Or for a lock I can make? If it's for a lock I can pick, this is getting pretty expensive. It would cost 45k to make a lock near my top lock.

I tried locks up to -400 but none of them give me a rep. This is confusing.

Any advice?

The highest lock you can make is the same as the highest lock you can pick I believe. And yeah, I think it needs to be pretty near your max. Maybe 75% or so?

It is expensive, but you can sell back the assemblies (after using them for reps) to the guy near the toolbenches for like 90% of the cost.

That was it, I had to try tougher locks. It was about 60% of the toughest lock I can pick that worked. Looks like I should have worked harder on this before 74th level.

Thanks!

It's not nearly as expensive as it used to be, since you can now sell the lock assemblies back to them. The net cost isn't all that much.

Plus, you're only making locks for a few ranks, and you're only getting a few of those tasks per rank. It doesn't add up to all that much silver.

And if you still feel discouraged by the cost, just try meditating for a few minutes each day, reciting this simple mantra over and over in your mind:

"Alchemy... Alchemy... Alchemy... Alchemy..."

...And then thank your lucky stars you're not a wizard!

Heh. I have an empath and a wizard who both dropped out of alchemy because I couldn't take it. I'll take LFM over alchemy any day!

I hear you there! I've nearly completed LFM for the SECOND time, but I gave up on Alchemy on my cleric and Wizard.

I found this rather amusing as I have a wizard and a rogue (well, most classes actually). My rogue has been working on LFM for... a very long time ... and is only up to rank 30. I started Alchemy on my Wizard much later in life and I'll soon be done with it. For additional fun and excitement I've decided to tackle Forging next.

One factor that is probably making LFM a bit more challenging is the fact that my rogue generally only works on boxes that are self-gathered so it definitely slows down the process by quite a bit.
