My 14th level rogue is starting to come across scarabs more frequently in boxes she hunts, and I was wondering how to tell if she is able to disarm them. She's a fully tripled picker and always sees traps on the first 'detect'. I remember that in GS3 it depended on various factors of training. Does that apply still? I hate my characters dying so I usually farm out the scarabs to a cleric or a picker of higher rank. I'd love to give my rogue that experience if it's possible without dying.
Here's the training:

If you scritch scritch, you're safe. If you don't, you might not be.
As was said before, get arcane symbols ranks and disarming ranks if you can't reliably scritch.
Also, as was mentioned, blue or green scarabs can be survived, blood red and onyx are pretty much guaranteed death, opal is sorta 50/50.

Hint: before trying to disarm a blood red scarab, have a cleric standing by ready to cast neutralize curse (309). This will pop the scarab out before you die, and it will lie on the floor for a few seconds, before trying to latch onto another victim. During that time it will be vulnerable to weapons, and spells such as Bind.
