404 was explicitly stated by GM Banthis to affect aiming, when he implemented Ranged Weapons.
I suspect that 402 was deemed to be helpful by players, given that Perception factors into aiming.

All I can say for certain is that my character was one of the first generation archers, and when they made the updates for spells it was always 404 that had benefits, not 402. I don't know when people started saying 402 did anything, because according to GMs at the time it didn't.

The description of what Presence effects is very elusive. Rumors abound because the skill Perception applies to so many different things in the game, yet a level 2 spell might be overpowered if it did all those things.
I would really like a definitive list of what 402 does and does not do. Player experience and rumors have really failed badly on this spell.
And yeah I was really scratching my head about 402 for ranged characters since I also thought it was 404 (similar to how 613 helps disarming traps).

GM Cyraex, would you be able to clarify if this spell has any direct effect on the spells 408 and/or 416? It's unclear if the following should be implied to mean these spells (which have been suspected to be affected but the cat is not out of the bag...or the quantum box if you prefer):

Also, could we get any more info on how Air Lore influences the spell? I imagine since a seed number wasn't listed the lore is based on some other sort of formula? Is there a point of diminishing returns, or initial investment? |
Sure, its a random number in the range of your EL:Air Ranks/2 to EL:Air Ranks. If that number is greater than the number of hiding ranks the creature has, you will point it out from hiding.

Presence (402) does not have any effect on spells 408 or 416.
