Divine Vengeance has returned as an innate ability for paladins. The ability is learned automatically once they know up to spell 1613. It will activate when killed by a creature, which results in a spiritual shockwave that affects all creatures in the area - causing a knockdown and damage. The ability has a 4 hour cooldown.

and
2) Is it just monsters / bandits / etc or can it harm players? Granted.. creatures.. but I just want to be sure is all :-)

Well.. I volenteerly gave up a deed heh
A lambent white-gold cloud rolls through the area.
A n'ecare is buffeted by the white-gold cloud and is knocked to the ground.
... 10 points of damage!
Minor burns to the n'ecare's shield arm.
The n'ecare howls in evil delight!
All sorts of interesting. Potentially saving a party although against mein golems problem not so much.. least the weakling ones that are designed to die by 1 hit heh

One request:
>spell active
You currently have the following active spells:
Armored Fluidity ................... 3:55:33
Is it possible to have the cool down show for spell active please?
Just respectfully requesting of course.
I thought of another question too: will it be improved some what lore later? I'm just curious is all.
Anyhow, Anyway: Thank you Estild :-)

Paladin spell ranks are a factor, but I doubt we'll add a lore. Not completely against the idea, so I am open to suggestions.
In your test, it seems you were a bit unlucky. Also, the messaging is slightly different for different pantheon alignments.

Divine Retribution gets a lot of (in my opinion, well deserved) flak for doing mediocre damage. I agree that letting it do insane amounts of indiscriminate damage would be exploitable, but how about if retribution did extra damage if the target was below 50% health? This would ensure that you would have had to actually have engaged the target and failed, but at least your retribution could finish the job and wouldn't just serve as the sardonic cherry on top of your death.

religion - more damage / multiple hits?
blessings - inspires other characters with your martyrdom, temporary AS/DS/CS/TD bonus for others in the room
summoning - some of the energy from the vengeance infuses your spirit with mana if you had none (so you can self-cast beseech to your anchor)

It's damage is completely different than before. While the single log posted thus far makes it seem weak, it's far too soon to generalize. Here's a single log from my recent test:
You sense the powers guarding your corpse awakening.
A lucent silvered ebon smoke rolls through the area.
An Ithzir seer is buffeted by the ebon smoke and is knocked to the ground.
... 50 points of damage!
The Ithzir seer's neck and shoulders blasted away by intense wave of plasma.
The Ithzir seer vainly struggles to rise, then goes still.

"Bonus fact: Your Divine Vengeance affected 84 creatures in the area." -- Estild
For clarification: the only thing that this really truly affects--from the standpoint of the Paladin--is if the Paladin were to be raised and then remain in that hunting area, so that when the creatures were killed he would get credit for having damaged them, correct?

Not even that, really. The main reason we removed it from spell slot 1613 was because it was mostly useless. Even if it outright killed the target every time, it's still not that great. It doesn't justify a spell slot, but we still think it's a neat ability. So we made it innate and significantly boosted it so that it affects all creatures in the area. It will also serve to notify other hunters that a paladin has died nearby.

so you might be in a different room from the dead person and the creature you're attacking might spontaneously die or get injured from this, when you don't want it to be injured? |
Yes.

Job will be to lay down their bodies to protect the gates and the fair people of the landing. No equipment needed...when call for just lie down outside the gates and let the monsters kill you. For any paladin that does not join the squid willingly will be knocked out and dragged to the gates as needed. Paladin...the landing needs you.

Heh I could see Menos being the last line of defense if TV keep was ever attacked. When he falls he takes the Keep with him so no one else can use it. Reminded me of a scene in one of Feist's books during the rise of the serpent queen where Duke James blows up Krondor when they lose it.
Another thought came to mind, does Hopelessness trigger this ability or does it have to be at the hands of something? Cause..a suicide squad of paladins from that one society could have a place in some storylines for sure.

Thank you for working on this and it looks like a fun retribution thing. My only thoughts are, if you know the spell, then why is there a 4 hour cooldown? I think if you know it, no cooldown is necessary. It would be nice if it just happened when a Paladin fell. Also, someone mentioned a nice idea would be to toss in a Sanctuary effect for the room which sounds like a great idea too - could be based on Lore training.
Great start though, hopefully it isn't finished. ;-)

Re: HSN: Divine Vengeance Returns! on 07/17/2015 10:42 AM CDT
Yeah I've got a few questions here:
1) Does this mean that we get credit for kills on the affected creatures? So it may result in a full head of exp?
2) It'd be nice if there were more of a benefit to us. Don't get me wrong- this functionally announces to anyone in the area that there's a dead Paladin, so that's great. (And often overlooked) But, as others have noted, the fact that we're getting divine attention here leaves room to justify helping out the Paladin. (Why would Oleani jump in and kill all the enemies while leaving Her paladin there to decay?) How about a chance for auto-LK? I don't personally see the reasoning behind a sanctuary effect- you're...already dead. But religion lore turning into a chance to be LK'd by your deity would be neat.

Re: HSN: Divine Vengeance Returns! on 07/17/2015 12:14 PM CDT
I was just mentioning a Sanctuary effect because it drives all the creatures away and leaves the room open for those coming in to rescue the Paladin. I do also like your idea of Life Keep. Sounds like the right line if you're being saved by your Deity, wouldn't they want you to be preserved to help continue the fight? I suppose it could be later defined as a Role Play thing - different alignments do different things.

Small update guys. This effect will now provide you with feedback on the amount of creatures impacted. The first value is all creatures impacted, this includes any that are killed. The second value is outright kills.
You sense that 61 creatures have been injured and 24 have been slain in the reckoning!
Your mileage will, obviously, vary.
