Ok, after 13 years I'm at a place I never thought I'd get to with my sorcerer... where I need to figure out where to go after getting 130 and 435. At level 62, this is where I stand on the circles:
Your spell lists:
Minor Spiritual...30
Minor Elemental...35
Sorcerer Base.....83
Now, I don't have much interest in 140, it's one of those spells that costs too much and has too short of a duration for regular use and I'll never remember I have it in those rare instances that it's a better choice then spending that mana on attack spells or just getting the heck out of there. That said, has anyone found 135 useful or is that another one that can safely wait until I have other priorities filled?
Now that I've got my level +20 in the sorcerer circle, I intend on maintaining that but I'm only going to 2x in spells for a while (instead of dumping every spare TP into spells) so I can pick up some tertiary skills I've been wanting. Obviously one of those ranks will go into the sorcerer circle, but (assuming I decide I don't need to rush to get 135) would the other be better off going into MnE (to boost 435) or should I just 2x in the sorcerer circle?
This sorcerer is in Voln if it matters.

Going to 140 is nice, both for reasons of the spell as an emergency measure (90 seconds is much better than the wizard version, 919, I think, at 60 seconds) and because at 40 ranks of 100's, your duration for 100s is 1 hour each cast, which is a nice easy rounded off number. Also, you get some more DS from both 102 and 120, more so than you get from ranks in the 400s from 430.
That said, ranks in 400s will generally benefit you more (at least up to 75 ranks) to max your benefit from 425 and 430, and as you said, to make 435 more effective. I have had very little success with 135, so I agree, no rush to get to that when you could be spending ranks on the 400s. Although I still think 140 is a better stopping point than 130.

I used to use 140 a lot more than I do now, especially when I tried a brawling/open-hand build (since rendered useless with the loss of Voln-Fu). Since adjusting my build and tanking on spells, I forget it's there. If DS was an issue, however, I'd certainly be glad to have it. And, of course, it's a real life saver in invasions.
But all that aside, there are other reasons to go to 140 and beyond. Spiritual CS is one. Airwall is another, since it scales up with spell ranks. And of course spell durations reach 1 hour/cast at the 40th rank, which is nice, especially if you can fire off four hours in a single multi-cast.
As for 135, I've used it on occasion. It's our only mass CS spell aside from EyeSpy/EvilEye, so it has its niche. It's handy in group situations, and especially effective vs. undead. Note that although it is group friendly, it is not player friendly. I found that out the hard way by blowing somebody's eyes off. =-O

Unless you're getting hit a lot with AS attacks (in which case you need to figure out why), then I'd keep Sorcerer ranks at +20 and put the rest in MnE until your MnE ranks are at 2/3rds of your level. Then go back to MnS. You'll get bolt AS and Elem. TD in exchange for a smaller increase in DS.

Thanks for the input, folks. Just to clarify, I ment training in MnE for 430, not 435... but at least I made that typo here and not in the town commons.

This statement is misleading, the benefits fom 425 do cap at 75 MnE but the benefits from 430 cap out at level.
I'd agree with taking MnE up to 2/3s your level, you get the CS/TD/DS from it and I highly doubt you are hurting on DS but if you are MnS would be the better choice.

My vote would always go to MnE. The extra CS is something that will have real, tangible benefits all the time. The extra DS from 100s, while helpful, could be made up with an outside spell or a scroll or something. I'm in a similar boat (level 63), and am definitely going the 400s route once I finish getting 12 ranks in every elemental lore in a futile effort to make DC better.
