Returning warpath here, been about 3-4 year since i played. Lvl 37 Two handed empath. Master of GOS also. I remember having a tough time with bandits but I was nearly killed multiple times, it was so bad that I ran back to the landing screaming for mom. My ambush DS was in the low 200's, no real defense against their CM's. No real crowd control. ANy other warpaths have any suggestions. I did forget about mass calm which i might have tried.
My AS with self spells/sigils and 4x mattock is 299 ( no spirit strike). My eq sucks as waring 4x nothing fancy brig.
Are people still playing warpaths without a problem? My goal was with enough lore and mana that I could run spirit strike all the time and possibly use unbalance to knock things down if needed.
Basic training is 1x THW, 1x CM, 1x armor, 1x pf, 2x spells
Thanks

I got to level 91 or so before switching to pure caster; plan on going back to THWs in another 2 trainings (currently 95). I never did any bandit tasks though; they are hard for casters. But I can suggest getting some outside spells for extra DS, some white crystals if you need more AS, and some imbedded items. An e-wave amulet, for example. Also Sympathy is useful for controlling crowds.

Oh, just change things around. She started out as the usual OHE/Shield, around 45 trainings switched to pure caster. This was too easy, so around level 60 or so I made her into a 2 Hander using warpath, for the challenge. As a warpath, I had her up to 30 ranks of MOC, for the focused M-strike. Switched back at level 91 to pure caster; wanted to see how she did in that incarnation. Forget dodge, it only gets you some extra DS, doesn't do anything to avoid maneuver attacks.

Re: warpath on 01/25/2012 11:27 AM CST
Oh, and I should mention that a warpath is NOT a warrior; weapons should be considered a secondary attack. Disable the foe first with spells (empathy is a crowd control spell that is quite useful here; bind is good for single opponents). Also, you will never get redux, even though you can train 3x in PF skill. But considering that PF is useful in reducing damage from various maneuver attacks, I would recommend training at least 2x in this, even if you are a pure caster. For example ... current skills at 95 (pure caster)

As you can see, I have retained some CM and a bit of MOC for defensive purposes (CM is going into cunning defence and a bit of disarm); clearly, I am also going for 3x in PF. When in weapon using mode, I was 2x in PF, 1x in weapon and CM skill, and had 30 ranks of MOC. I had fewer spell ranks, of course, and I had no spell aiming; also HP was only 1x. I also had no summoning lore; right now, that's there purely to get an extra target or two if I decide to use spirit fire on something.
Empaths can generate more pure weapon AS than any other casting profession (sorcerer, cleric, mage); if DS is a problem, you might even consider attacking in advanced stance once the enemy is disabled; you can probably still hit them.
Hmm, I don't have my skills as a warpath lying around on a document somewhere; let me see if I can recreate them later.

Re: warpath on 01/25/2012 01:11 PM CST
Thanks for the skills, I actually us weapons as a primary means of attack and with my +6 claid I have a AS of 286 at lvl 37, I use spirit strike to make sure that the mob is stunned. I dont have my stats or even what my CS is for spells. I should probably try use some spells to disable mobs...i generally will avoid more then 2 mobs at a time.
I will do armor skill 1x forever so that I can wear chain mail, I will get hit and the hope is to survive the hits when i get stunned. With sigil of major prot I can have heavy crit padding, with troll blood and the other sigil that increases health point regen Im hoping at around lvl 70ish or so that I wont be able to be bled to death very easily.
I really want the 30 ranks of MOC, but probably wont be able to work on those for a while.
It seems that you went to pure caster to see what it was like rather then swinging a THW not being viable?
PF will be increased ASAP when points allow.
I will be very curious on what your AS is at lvl 97, would you mind posting a log of a few kills? Seems that I will have to play with empathy a bit later to see how it goes.
Thanks

I used to use 117 as a disabler/kill shot all the time too. I liked that I could throw it on early and not have to worry about armor hinderance in front of the mob. I found it became harder to pull off later because if the attack was dodged, I'd be defenseless. I only wear brig though, you may be better at taking hits in chain.
You should be keeping your empath spell ranks at level for 1130, so your CS with non-empath spells will likely be pretty low. I remember using calm a lot at that level for pairs of mobs. Even with a low CS, you can usually throw calm a few times until it sticks long enough on one mob to kill the second one in a room. Empathy(1108) is also good in situations where there are multiple things in a room. Your CS should be pretty good with that spell, so you'll either bind the extra mobs or cause them to flee. Either way, you can then kill their friends to clear out a room.
I generally save sympathy for groups of four or more. Calm and Empathy are good enough to handle smaller groups.

PS: Be aware that I was using a crossbow and shooting things in the eye. My experiences may be a tad different than someone using a claid.

It's funny I actually play my empath like a warrior. I stance dance and swing, not a lot of spells or tricks just stand toe to toe with mobs, the part I love is getting hit and healing them right after the fight.
As long as things have not changed with regeneration I will need that I'm sure. Also many of the as/ds empath spells increase their bonuses with more spells.
Can anyone remind me if there were other benefits to training mana share? I want to say that it increased your mana regen? And does anyone know If PF increases your stamina regen?
I would love to know if there is a way to increase the rate at which trolls blood cycles to attempt to break a stun.
So far bandits are the ony thing that I cannot handle with out other spells. That is due to my horrible ambush ds. Leveling and what not has been easy and at 37 I amounting at level without problem. Just some advice if other people are wondering about making a warpath, it's a lot of fun.

>>Can anyone remind me if there were other benefits to training mana share? I want to say that it increased your mana regen? And does anyone know If PF increases your stamina regen?<<
Yes to the first part; not sure about the effect of PF training on the actual regen of stamina, but more PF increases your base stamina amount.
>>It's funny I actually play my empath like a warrior. I stance dance and swing, not a lot of spells or tricks just stand toe to toe with mobs, the part I love is getting hit and healing them right after the fight.<<
Right now at level 37, this can work, but eventually this will be hard to do. Disabling spells are part and parcel of the tactics of a caster who uses weapons. Yes, even much later on. you could possiibly set foes up for a physical attack by feinting and disarming them (Note: hard to do vs warrior type critters), but it takes valuable time. Bind or unbalance works well for single opponents, sympathy for groups.
>>As long as things have not changed with regeneration I will need that I'm sure.<<
An especially valuable spell, which has saved my butt on a number of occasions. Remember to keep enough mana in reserve to be able to use it.

That's SMC. Every 25 skill points (not ranks) reduces the base cycle time by 1 second. Base cycle time is 20 seconds. Diminishing returns hits pretty hard after you get the cycle down around 15 seconds.

Pbhphpb... Wat? I'm sorry, but that sounds boring to me. Use some tactics! Ambush their leg then hit them in the face! Feint to the side and catch them off balance! Don't just stand there and swing while you get hit.
>>the part I love is getting hit and healing them right after the fight.
I hate getting hit. But I do love healing a huge wound and getting right back into battle. That's an awesome feel.

Throgg mentioned imbedded items, but I thought I would throw this out there since it's been a while since you played and you might not know/remember. You can get a ranger to make you wiregrass anklets and bracelets in bulk and have a mage put ewave and haste in them, if you still have friends around or are willing to pay. I went ewave anklet and haste bracelet, myself. It's easy to burn through them fast but if you save it for things like bandit tasks or when it just gets too hairy and you're stubborn, they are a great tool. 2 second claid swings against a bunch of enemies on their rumps is addicting.

>>2 second claid swings against a bunch of enemies on their rumps is addicting.<<
I was under the impression that a non-mage who was hasted could not swing a claid in less than 3 seconds; been a while since I checked, so I'll have to try it again, but I am pretty sure that's the case. My mage needed 24 ranks of air lore and 27 rabnks of MjE spells to get the full RT reduction from self cast haste.
Which leads into a discussion of efficacy of caster types in regard to using weapons. IMO, mages are hands down the best at this. A good selection of disabling spells (e-wave, tremors, major e-wave, call wind) plus the ability to stike once every second with a heavy THW hitting (I favor my 7x perfect maul over a claidh).
Cleric vs empath. A close call. Clerics can't muster anything like the weapon AS an empath can, but they have cheaper tp costs for those skills involved, and have a bit better mass disabling spells. My cleric was able to train fully not only in THW and CMan, but also brawling and shield. Favorite tactic was to cast a disabling spell from guarded with shield and a brawling weapon out, feint and/or disarm the foe, then use a macro to stow the weapon and shield, get out a maul, and whack away.
I mentioned my empath's training; brawling and shield were right out, only THW and Cman were trained; but she did somehow also manage to get 30 ranks of MOC, which my cleric never bothered with except for 5 ranks. A focused Mstrike on a prone opponent with a nice THW is quite nasty.
My THW sorceress is only level 20; no time to play er much. Sorcerers make the worst weapon users, since they have really only 1 AS booster, spell 425 (Ok they can get pure potions and 307 spell gems, but so can anyone, so that is not germane. I am speaking purely about using one's own abilities here). Still, they should be able to progress. I can't speak out of personal experience, but I do know there is a THW using sorcerer out there who is currently in the mid 90's of trainings.

For the EL:A bonus, I'm pretty sure it uses the recipient's ranks, not the caster's ranks.
I think MjE ranks, on the other hand, use the caster's ranks in both the self cast and other cast cases.
I may have it backwards, but if my wizard and ranger both have haste cast by the wizard, the ranger does not see the same level of RT reduction on actions.

Per play.net, it is the casters Elemental Lore, Air Training that will apply in all cases (self cast or another target).
Per Krakiipedia, MjE ranks only apply when self cast and not when cast on a target.

Re: warpath on 01/28/2012 03:57 PM CST
From personal experience, a non-mage can get 2 second swings from scroll or imbed cast haste. It takes 48 ranks of air lore. This is because lores count as 1/2 for major lists not your own, and 1/3 for base lists not your own. Since haste is 506, and thus, a major list, lore ranks are divided by 2. 48 ranks gives the equivalent of 24 ranks, which is 102 bonus. 100 bonus is the threshold for 1 extra second reduction. In the same vein, if a non-mage somehow had 200 ranks of air lore, they would get an extra two seconds of reduction. 200 ranks = 100 usable ranks, which equal 200 bonus.

That's interesting; I wonder if there has been a change made. At one time, I am sure I recall that lores didn't affect invoked haste, but that could have been years ago. And some time back, I cast haste on a THW user, and she reported her RT was 3. Alas, I didn't ask what her usual base RT was; with a suboptimal agi-dex score, it might well have been 6. My bad.
Still, a warmage with self cast haste does stike 1x per second, which is twice as fast as anyone else can, so I stand by my statement that they make the best weapon using caster profession. (A non mage with 200 ranks of air lore? Seems unlikely).

An especially valuable spell, which has saved my butt on a number of occasions. Remember to keep enough mana in reserve to be able to use it
Note pertaining to this... from my experience so far.. any mana is enough mana for Regen since by its very nature your completely shot nerves are handled within seconds... as for the concern that such an inherent nervous system shock of say -40 in mana... I haven't died using it and have used it down way into the negatives but do not have any firm stats on how low I have gone.. at least into the mid 20's negative which outside of that one spell I think would likely kill normally?

I don't believe you can kill yourself casting this spell, you need your mana to hit either -50 or -51 to die that way, rather sure it is -51 but it has been a while. Hitting either of those numbers is impossible when casting this spell though, because you need at least 1 mana to be able to cast and that would only take you down to -49.
