I just wanted to give a shout out to Wyrom for the new "auffle" (auction/raffle) system he created for us. Not only does it provide a nice halfway system between auction and raffle but it allows for winning without being online at the time of the drawing. I realize there are still some bugs to work out but I for one welcome our new auffle overlord.

It's a halfway between an auction and a raffle. Also Auffle made me giggle and I'm trying to make the name stick.

I'd just call it Raffle 2.0, since in most raffles that I know of in the real world you can buy multiple tickets to and we don't call them Auffles, though some of them could be awful.

no, hence the issue with the name.

>> I'd just call it Raffle 2.0

+1 for that very thing.

Until I read the wiki page, I had no idea this thread was about the new raffle mechanics.

Auctions ... are where multiple people place a BID to buy something.
Raffles ... are where multiple people buy a CHANCE to own something.

The new raffle tables had nothing at all to do with auctions, did they?

An auction allows the person who is willing to spend the most to win.

A raffle sells tickets and the winner is random.

An auffle allows the person willing to spend the most to have a better chance to win but is still random.

As I recall, many raffles years ago allowed multiple tickets. The professional pavises come to mind. Also this system was used recently at the Reim raffle, wasn't it?

So I'm not sure it's even "2.0" but more like "0.0" or something since that was one of the original kinds of raffles, even if it wasn't used so extensively in recent years.

Also, if you really do like it, I don't really suggest the pronunciation like "awful" besides that it has nothing to do with an auction really.

By definition (in or outside of the game), a raffle is not limited to 1 ticket (per person or otherwise). It can be, but doing so does not make it not a raffle anymore.

What ever we end up calling it, these raffles are NOT a replacement raffle system. These are a bit cumbersome. It's just a specialty raffle system we'll use from time to time.

How about calling them Spraffles (Specialty Raffles)?

I moved the information to the place that at least 5 people agreed was the right place to put it. the system has nothing to do with auctions, as has been confirmed by staff. I checked with 2 other people before naming it, but am open to other ones that make sense.

Multi-ticket raffles does not cover the full differences with the two systems.

It's halfway between Auctions and Raffles in terms of "fairness." The person with the most money won't always win like an auction but they're able to buy a better chance to win. That's the implication. No one is saying it's an auction format but that it splits the difference between an auction which benefits those willing to pay the most and a raffle that it totally random. I changed it to Multi-Ticket Raffle as a compromise but if "Raffle 2.0" is an acceptable alternative stop removing "Auffle" as an alternative.

The term 'auffle' doesn't convey the concept of a raffle at all for me personally.

Raffle 2.0 at least I think it's a raffle up front but then I also think it's a replacement system for Raffle 1.0.

I'm lukewarm on Flexible Raffle but at least I know what it is (it's a raffle) and it sounds like it is some variation on the raffles I am familiar with.

The only 2 silvers I plan on contributing to this discussion.

Like I said Flexible raffle doesn't convey anything to me. I tried changing it to Multi-Ticket Raffle but the wiki queen doesn't like it. I'm open to suggestions that don't include "Go to hell, we own the wiki and you're in the way."

To be fair though that name was Auffle.

I started with the name multi-ticket raffles, but it doesn't give any weight to the other differences in the system (log in, draw time, currencies). I personally think these differences are at least as important as being able to buy multiple tickets. I'd rather have Wyrom name his system and be done with it. Specialty Raffle works for me.
