We've noticed quite a few neat things from the Treasure System end up left on the ground, eventually going to the greedy janitor. After negotiations with the Janitor's Union, we're now able to rescue these unloved pieces of armor, fine examples of weaponry, and lovely bits of jewelry. Once rescued, they will be spruced up with fancier than normal descriptions, and put back into the other half of the Treasure System to go out with a second chance on life.

So, if you find a fancy weapon, it could very well have enhancive properties (among other things). Keep an eye out, and check everything you find because it might be great!

Awesome change, good work Tamuz.

I did find a fireleaf runestaff in plat recently in a warcamp with that exact description "A fireleaf runestaff" and it turned out to be +27, was a nice surprise.

I'm generally a pro-union, but that janitors union has been pesky in the past! good to see some concessions ;)

Quick question...do all enhancives appraise for 35k at the pawnshop/gem shop? Or are there occasionally ones that appraise for "normal" prices too?

So does this mean that eventually, all items like that will have these fancy descriptions, ensuring that they will never be mistaken for junk again? Or will they only be spruced up if they have to be recovered from the janitor first, after being ignored in its original form?

Any enhancive I've found so far has always maxed out the pawnshop at 35k. Adding just one bonus of a tertiary skill with a dark elf negative in an elf town may be able to skim right underneath but if it appraises under 35k, it won't be by much.

I've seen a handful of enhancives weigh in at less than 35k, but not by much. They were usually very low enchant items, like 1x scimitars with an enhancive property here or there.

If its valuing at something like 28k, its probably worth looking into.

Also; strange looking feras items. I've found at least 3 or 4 enhancive feras items, all of which had an unusual description.

An utterly fabulous thought.

I saw a 4x enhancive dagger go for under 35k.

Depending if a GM finds it and wishes to use it. Basically, due to the sheer amount of stuff left behind on a regular basis, their are lots of things we have that just go to waste that are much better than our normal guidelines. So with this, we can try to get nice items back out there into the hands of people who are a little more loot hungry.

Weapon type makes a big difference, as does material. If you have a feras item for example that is appraising at say 15k, it's probably got some decent enhancives. Those used to drop every now and again, but I haven't seen one in a while. Any cheap material that is appraising high is suspicious in my book.

In other words, people who are actually playing the game and paying attention to what happens.

To give you an idea of what to look for...

The janitor swept up "a fiery red eahnor jeddart-axe". It was +18 with disintegration flares, and an enhancive +4 Strength. Pretty plain looking, well camouflaged.

It's now "a fiery crimson eahnor jeddart-axe crowned with a golden vaalorn wyvern", and ready to go out again when some critter gets lucky and gets armed to the teeth. No other properties have changed, it's still +18 with disintegration flares and the +4 Strength enhancive. Pretty distinctive, certainly more noticeable than before. Hopefully it can find a new home!

Weirdest item I've found recently: a feras quoit with Combat Maneuver enhancives. Its sell value was well over 35k, but my thought was "Under what circumstance could this be useful?"

I was just kind of curious. Usually even being below their average level, Kaldonis tends to nuke Citadel heralds in one shot into a billion pieces. Not always, but more than 50% of the time Implosion is not the heralds' friend (which is good, since they aren't Kaldonis's friends, either). Found a pesky one this weekend, which took three shots of direct 720 before it died from hit-point damage. I tried some warding spells in between, but the chance to hit without Cursing them comes in right around 30% usually.

I am pretty careful about LOOKing as often as I can before my next implosion or leaving a room, since things do get a bit crazy sometimes. But anyway, this was how it went...

You trace an intricate sign that contorts in the air while forcefully invoking Implosion...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a putrefied Citadel herald.
A void rips open in the area, directly above a putrefied Citadel herald!
The Citadel herald is twisted violently by the intense power of the void!
+157 Hits.
A putrefied Citadel herald writhes on the ground before lying motionless.
The dull golden nimbus fades from around a putrefied Citadel herald.
The very powerful look leaves a putrefied Citadel herald.
The white light leaves a putrefied Citadel herald.
The dim aura fades from around a putrefied Citadel herald.
A white glow rushes away from a putrefied Citadel herald.
A putrefied Citadel herald seems slightly different.
A putrefied Citadel herald seems hesitant.
The blood red haze dissipates from around a putrefied Citadel herald.

Everything in the room seemed to stay in place. The void disappears without further incident.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
>l

[Citadel, Battlement]
Marking the northern boundary of the complex are the rooflines of the armory and the garrison to the north and the infirmary to the northwest. Beyond the buildings and the surrounding walls of the Citadel is empty wilderness, stretching off toward the horizon, interrupted only by the occasional tall tree or open meadow. You also see a putrefied Citadel herald that appears dead and the Kaldonis disk.
Obvious paths: east, west
>loot

You search the Citadel herald.
She had an ancient fireleaf runestaff.
You discard the herald's remaining useless equipment.
She didn't carry any silver.
Interesting, she carried some tattered cloth on her.
She had nothing else of value.
A putrefied Citadel herald collapses in upon herself, leaving behind a pile of dust.
>get runes

You pick up an ancient fireleaf runestaff.

It's normal fireleaf, but it's got a +6 bonus to Dexterity.

Was this just me getting lucky twice (herald could be looted and had something good), or is there any kind of assistance being given to Implosion telling it "don't vaporize that herald because it's got a nice enhancive"? When it's a creature likely to swing the weapon at me, I tend to notice, but I must admit, I don't LOOK at every creature before I try to vaporize it. Especially when if I give it more than a couple seconds it can be potentially fatal. Kill first, ask questions later.

Since it sounds like we're getting some real answers about how the treasure and janitor system works, any insight to Implosion? (Creatures holding stuff and/or stuff on the ground).

You got lucky twice, implosion doesn't care what a critter's carrying. My sorcerer's missed out on a few decent looking weapons on the swordsmen in the Citadel because they were just to dangerous not to kill quickly with implosion at the time.

This is why I try not to implode anything in areas that critters disarm unless I have to (not that there's anything in the Citadel that disarms), I don't want to be responsible for destroying another characters weapon that the moor witch/hisskra/spec warrior/etc picked up.

Starchitin is correct. Implosion isn't forgiving, so you got lucky.

Figured as much! Yay lucky!

I guess I have to try harder to look at creatures before they get vaporized...

I certainly would have picked this up, but at the end of the day, what would I do with it? It's a really nice sounding item, but can I really sell it for much? I routinely have nice looking 4x armors go without bid and end up selling them to the pawnshop for 35k rather than have them clogging up my lockers. I had a crossbow with sighting valued at over a million silvers that had no takers.

On a completely different note, why can't the merchants who remove various traits from items remove enhancements? I have a really nice sounding runestaff that is pretty obviously a well thought out treasure drop that I can't do much with because it has two low level enhancements. They don't warrant paying extra to enchant, but if they were gone I would get it enchanted up to 7x and maybe consider using PP to take higher. As it stands, it is stuck at 4x and will languish in my locker.
