Can a NIR confirm how many points of weighting/padding is added in the "flat amount" for the grand prize (when item already has weighting/padding).

From what I understand, you will have up to 10 points added (padding or weighting) for grand prize. If your gear already has 10 points, it will be increased by 5 to a total of 15 points weighting.
It is unclear, however, what the outcome of having an item with 8-9 points enhanced to me (would they increase it to 10 or 15?)
Starting to wonder if its a good idea for a winner to get a 5x fusion longbow and either to to 6x and then heavy sighting or go to 6x on round one and 8x on round two (for defensive/undead purposes)
As an aside, does anyone know if an 8x bow would work against demons or would you need an 8x arrow? *(I have attempted to use the 4x/4x bow and arrow combination on a fresh demon with no effect)
