I was seriously considering doing some RoL last week, but had other constraints on my time so decided, "Eh."
Looks like posts here pretty well dried up since Tuesday...
How'd the end of the event go? Folks feel like they were well served by lighten/deepen notes/automation? People enjoying their <whatever the now-locked-in benefit is> on their however-many-times-per-day?
So? What'd folks think? on 05/07/2018 03:34 PM CDT

Events that create yet another important item to carry or wear are becoming unwelcome. We only have so many functional slots and can only carry 500 items of inventory. Please consider a nested (the item and all things within it count as only 1 inventory item) weight reducing container to only hold and switch out our myriad herds of pets, another for fluffy quest souvenirs, etc. Please also upgrade the pin sashes to hold unlimited numbers of pins weightlessly but perhaps only display a favorite few.
The puzzles in this event were far too repetitive, and most of the answers were posted on the official wiki anyway, which made the entire challenge pointless.

Well, first of all I love the brooch! Even before the notes were added, I'd already spent more money on RoL than any other event and I'm glad I did. I do hope the addition near the end of letting us exchange one type of run for another is here to stay. Next time RoL runs, I could easily imagine not wanting the exp from Spiritual anymore for some of my characters and switching them to Order.
The notes were fantastic for this run, but I do think the types of rewards should be more diverse next time or the market might get flooded with notes and they'd lose all meaning.
About the puzzles, speaking as someone who only did the Spiritual ones... hit and miss, I think!
I enjoy that it wasn't one of the many ultra repetitive events like DM or DR Dig, and there was actual reason to participate and not just script it--that's also why I like DR Arena. I'll admit that puzzles aren't usually my thing and a few had me stumped, but I was surprised by how much I liked a couple of them. The ghost was probably my favorite. (And that was one I couldn't figure out on my own!)
Still, a couple puzzles could take too long even if you knew what to do. I'm thinking mostly of the ones with the night sky and the one with the contraption (especially that one)--I just started forfeiting them after a while because the small chance of a vivid pink note or shimmering blue orb wasn't worth it.
I think a good balance was the dark crystal puzzle or the one with the statues and scrying bowl. Longer than the chalk puzzles, but not so long that I ever stopped doing them.
Overall I liked the event!
But will I do it again if it runs next year? I don't know, actually. 305 entries were a natural stopping point and 750 is a long way off, so I guess it depends on the completion rewards. Notes alone won't push me there, but maybe something else could.

This has been my favorite event to actually run. I enjoyed most of the puzzles...solving them was intuitive and fun, with very little 'guess the verb'. The clues were all there if you paid attention! I thought it was well thought out and well done!
The prize, for me, was nice! Not something I could afford to take sky high, but the 105 runs I was able to do got me an item that was worthwhile. Ive yet to cap, so anything that helps me get exp just a little faster is nice.
The change to allow rando-prizes for successful solving of puzzles was awesome as well. Nothing game breaking, but just nice little incentives not to just surrender.
All in all, I give it the highest marks for FUN for an event Ive participated in yet!
Berbels shrilly exclaims, "Ise takings hims tos secretses lairses!"
Berbels grabs you and drags you east.

I enjoyed it, it was nice to see something different that gave variety to the types of events that are scattered throughout the year. I really enjoyed the description of the new area, a lot of detail went into that and I appreciated wandering through it all. The brooch was okay, helpful and nice, but nothing I wanted to dump lots of runs into. But I imagine it's hard to create something that both has value to people who run a small amount of times but not game-breaking for people who run hundreds of times. I found I enjoyed the puzzles a lot more than I was expecting to (all except the one where you had to make and place the custom gems in the mosaics, I would get burned out from constantly turning and pushing things to what felt like infinity), and I REALLY enjoyed the quizzes! I wasn't expecting to like that part as much as I did. I learned so many things about the lands and the Arkati that I didn't know before and I found that was a fun way to increase my knowledge of the lore of the game. I know by the end people had made a cheat-sheet wiki, but I didn't use that as I really enjoyed searching through the wiki pages on my own for the answers and learning stuff along the way.
My major complaint was the lack of being able to switch the brooch outside of the event, that negated any and all reason to explore any other rings and instead focus ENTIRELY on maximizing one. Especially the way the rewards are weighted where you get bonuses quickly at first and then it tapers off, I'd rather have a low amount of runs in all the rings and be able to switch them depending on my fancy rather than stacking up lots of runs in one ring and having diminishing returns. I'm glad at the end they made it so that you can switch the rings outside of the event, but it still feels too limiting for me. I reached a point where I didn't want to spend any more money on diminishing returns for my Spiritual ring, and didn't want to put any money into any of the other rings if I couldn't easily change it.
The notes and orbs were a nice touch too, I definitely did an extra handful of runs to get more of those. It wasn't my main motivation for doing the event, but it was really nice that I came out the other side with lighter gear and deeper pockets. I agree more variation would be nice, but I also really appreciate Simutronics trying to make an event that wasn't just a random slot machine pull for a change.
Overall I liked the event and liked to see new and original variety in the paid quest and events offerings. So cheers!
