We're pleased to announce a new material for Rumor Woods 2021 - shadarl. The term shadarl was coined to resemble erithi mummery, the shi'hadara, and shadarl is a leather-like material to be used in leather-based armors. Its creation is a closely kept secret, but a bit more on its history will be forthcoming later.
Black as pitch, shadarl has the unusual property of absorbing both light and sound. While this absorption is not complete, it is enough to grant a stealthy adventurer an edge over his prey. One unfortunate side effect of this is that shadarl often disrupts spellcasting by absorbing words and sound before they even leave the wearer's mouth.
What we know now:
* rare and restricted
* used only for leather armor
* has a slight spell hinderance
* improves the wearer's stalking and hiding bonus
* cannot be dyed
Many thanks to GM Elysani for creating the shop selling armor with this new material! Plan on checking out The Lesser of Two Weevils and reveling in her wares!

>>why would wood be used in the construction of the lighter leather armors? Isn't the whole point of something like full leathers that they are not rigid, and made of, err, leather?
It's a leather-like substance, so it will fit in the leather AsGs. I didn't mention anything about it being constructed of wood.
>>is this material for soft and rigid leather AsGs -- discord
Yes -- AsG5-12 (light to brig)

Some questions have come up about this...
>What are the stats of this armor?
+40 enhancive Stalking and Hiding ranks
+1% to spell hindrance
-100 material penalty, S&H enhancive bonus does not add to the penalty
Leathers only, AsG 5-12 only
>What enchant is the armor?
It is 4x enchanted, or +20.
>Is there an age restriction?
Only what the enchant requires.
>How does this material work with other add-ons?
The benefit of this material does not take up the flare slot, the script slot, or the subscript slot.
>Do you have to charge it?
No, this is an innate ability of the armor.

Soylent shadarl is people!!
And I watched a PC erithi RP recently who would totally be into this, I think. So....maybe....

Technically, leather is just the cured skin of something, sssoooo... yeah, it could totally be a humanoid/PC/NPC race. :) It's just that we normally think of it as coming from cow or horse or ox.
The Iliad made a big deal about (big) Ajax' shield of so-many plies made of oxhide and what not; I know I've read (translated) stories from China that also do the same, and a few references to rhinoceros-hide shields in stories set in Africa. (And also: crocodile, up near Egypt.)
I totally want one of those ones the heroine uses in AvP down in Antartica.

Xynwen, since we already get hooves & tails from the shadow steeds & night mares...
...maybe the sneeeeakiness of this new material comes from leather of one (or the other, or both) of those beasties.
Hell, since one of them is several levels higher than the other, this opens it up to Tier2/salable unlocks for more sneeeeaky goodness.

Hi Thandiwe,
This material and armor seems pretty cool but I've come to the conclusion that this armor is simply way (way, way) overpriced. When I initially saw the price (50k) I had DR bloodscrip as my point of reference and thought it was worth the effort / Simucoin / etc. for that price. After having spent some (limited) time playing around at the various Rumor Woods events this morning I've come to realize that 50k in Rumor Woods terms is more than 100k in DuskRuin terms. Hopefully the powers that be will review and give some reconsideration to the pricing on this armor (25k in Rumor Woods coinage is where my price point is.)
My math:
182 Duskruin Runs at ~275 bloodscrip = 50k bloodscrip
400 Rumor Woods Runs at ~125 raikhens = 50k raikhens
The fox hunt / sprite hunt are cute concept but not overly engaging and mostly seem like a way for people to quickly convert $$$ into raikhens. Similar to the sewer runs in DR I guess.
The jousting seems like it could be fun but as there is absolutely no skill involved (from what I can tell) it falls somewhat flat. It seems pretty much random: similar to playing Roshambo except without any ability to read your opponent.
Compare any of these events with the arena combat in DR: More engagement, better experience earned, loot earned, and event coinage.
Additionally the prizes handed out after each round are fairly undesirable in general (at least when I've received my 100th runestave in DR there is a chance that a few of them have interesting flares).
So between the more than double the cost for items(in Simucoin or $$$ terms vs. DR) and significantly less fun per Simucoin / $$$ spent on the event activities this is an overall miss for me.
Hopefully some of this feedback helps to make this event better for folks in the future.
Regards,
-- Robert
P.S. I really wish you guys would standardize your currency and simply have less pay currencies in general.

Hello Robert,
You have probably heard this already, but if someone didn't DM you: there are some recurring patterns by the opponent and so some skill involved. There's also some randomness and you're not going to get a perfect score often, but you should win far more than you lose.
Jousting gives more raikhen per entry than the other events, AFAIK. A quick poll on Discord reported an average of between 138 and 139 raikhen per run over thousands of runs.
The event is costly; no argument here.
There are some individuals (like myself) who will trade markers for raikhen at a very reasonable rate. (I'm sure there are silver and other options, too). I'd like the Dragoon title some year, but I'm not paying the dollars for it. If you're interested in a trade, I am @Shield on Discord.
