I just cast a disk with an item in my left hand, and this happened:

You gesture.
A small circular container suddenly appears and floats rather serenely over to you.
The topaz harmlessly burns to ash in a sudden flash of light.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

What the heck?? What if I had been holding something of value?

That is how the spell works. have a gem in yer left hand when casted. the disk takes the color of the gem. want a blue disk, hold a blue gem.

If you cast disk with certain gems in your hand, it will eat the gem in order to customize the description of your disk. Maybe that's what happened?

That is infact a feature of Disk and not anything to do with Grawood.

That has been around for several years. You can even look for the lists of what gems cause what color disks.
