So, first, I'm not sure this folder belongs under this topic anymore now that it's been clarified as paid events - paid merchant events like EG and alllll the others usually have their own folders in here. I always thought the 'Merchant Events and Suggestions' folder was for... general things. So, clarification, where should this thread go if this folder is indeed only for paid events?
Anyway, on to suggestion. I've known the tattoo system to be used for scars now and again, firsthand during a storyline and secondhand on others. I expect there have been arguments against doing this from the wounds-and-scars-can-be-healed consistency standpoint, in the past. What's the current stance on this?
I ask because a) longstanding permanent scars that aren't restricted to just neck-up scars like one can get from the scarring razors can be character defining and important from a roleplay/backstory perspective and b) I've got a friend who's interested in something like this and has so far hit one tattoo merchant and been turned down (I don't know the details of the refusal, but it sounded like 'no scars').
I'm hoping that this is possible and it was just a personal preference on the part of this particular merchant. If so, great, can we get a merchant willing to do scar-tattoos sometime? If not, I'll express my dismay, point out the scarring razor again as 'but but but' and hope that this wavers back over the line to acceptable again sometime.
And if it is indeed possible, I'll also suggest adding some scars and scar-like markings to the stock tattoo wagon, or another wagon for stock scars. I'm sure there'd be any number of people willing to help come up with some designs.
I'm also certain this has come up in conversation before, but you know how it is, the years run together, conversations get lost, staff turns over, and and things change.

Not sure, but I think a feature alterer would be what your friend would be after.
You could likely add a detailed scar description to the "Unique" feature line. The one that appears after the face/nose/distinguishing mark line. At least I believe so - a GM would have to confirm regarding scars.
ALTER 31 doesn't mention any restrictions on scars that I can see and it does indicate it as a longer distinguishing mark field. And since the scarring razors add to the distinguishing mark, a more custom scar could be thoughtu p for the "Unique" feature line?

Actually ALTER 33 does list something about custom scars:
"Tattoos, brandings, and piercings are not to be incorporated into feature alterations, as there are separate systems for all three. Custom scars are allowed, so long as they look different from normal, mechanical injuries, and so long as they are located in a spot that is always visible (i.e. somewhere neck-up, for feature purposes)."
So it'd have to be somewhere always visible - this is probably why face/neck is used. But I know there are a few other spots that are "always visible" as per the tattoo system, but I imagine it'd be up to the specific GM as to whether that is alright.

In this case he's going for scarring on the body, not on the face/neck, and it wouldn't work with features. Hence my inquiry about the current stance of using the tattoo system for scars, since it's been done in the past but it sounded like he ran into some resistance.

Consider this a seconded for this request, be it either in the form of re-allowing scars/brands/marks/non-tattoo items to be utilized in the tattoo system, OR simply for having more tattoo artists around who are willing to do ink-less tattoos (aka scars). An artist who specializes exclusively in scars and similar forms of body modification would be extra neat, especially if that artist became a regular at specific events or times of year.

All of this, please. I believe the purpose for wanting a scar to fall under the tattoo field is because that system will allow the character to cover it whenever they wish, as they are able to do with tattoos currently. For myself, it's something I would love to be able to have for roleplay purposes on my Lornonite.
