I really recommend you add more time between “rooms” on the ocean. It feels like it’s way too fast to get to say Kraken’s Fall and the Landing; a 10 minute trip that should take in my opinion 3 hours+. It adds to the immersion and realism and makes the ocean actually feel like an ocean. A literal adventure to get to one point and the other.

And all teleportation magic should not work when a city or location is only accessible by ship.

Also, I would like to see eating/drinking and weather effects that can set your ship off course as well. The ability to get lost (like literally “Lost”) out at sea should be very real.

No to the time.

Also, the weather can throw it off.

You wouldn’t be online for the entire 3 or 4 hours of the trip. You manage the ship for the first 10 minutes of the voyage and the last 5 minutes getting your ship to port. The in-between 3 or 4 hours you can log-off (or stay on for some random encounters etc.)

This actually makes the ocean feel like an ocean rather than a leisurely jaunt to Solhaven.

Also, we need sea monsters.

Yeah, no. One million times no.

OSA is not meant to be a travel mechanism between towns; it's meant to be so much more than that. That one can travel between towns in a reasonable amount of time is icing on the cake. The real purpose is as a group-encouraged hunting ground with distinct character and flavor.

It's working great. Don't change this aspect at all. I'd much prefer Retser and team work on getting island instances out so I can find some buried treasure!

Seriously? Why would you ever complain about this? The current times are fine. If you want to lock yourself into a 3 hour tour then do the trip multiple times to make yourself feel better. This is a game not real life. It’s meant to be enjoyable and fun.

This is quiet possibly the worst suggestion of 2020. Do you even sail in game bro?

I'm pretty sure that suggestion can be implemented without a GM touching code, simply by logging off for 3 hours...

You can also sail with your sails raised already if you want to slow down your trip to take in the sights.

How on earth does raising sail slow you down? If you don't raise sail on a boat you aren't going anywhere!

On small boats, yes, you raise sails upward on the mast. This will be what most people have seen at marinas, or taking part in yacht races.

On big ships, though, typically you release the reefs that you have taken up in the sails, so that they shake downwards toward the deck. That's why you see sailors standing on ropes, draped over the spars, hauling UP on the ropes to take in sail.

(I happen to have seen both of these ships: the first at the age of 6 when my family toured Europe, and the latter in the mid-2000's when I was at a conference in San Diego while it was tied up there. Sailing ships are REALLY COOL to look at. :)

.

Put it in even more modern terms:
Jack Sparrow at the beginning of "Black Pearl" and also the end of "At World's End": raising a sail on a dinghy.
<All of the other ship scenes with anything happening in the yards>: lowering sail to catch more of the wind, or reefing up to catch less.
