Ok..
Is there any reason a Swamp Troll should be able to rip a spell through a Shear cast by a player with over 300 PM, and all mental's in the 30's (some high 30's)?
How much equivilent PM do the Swamp Trolls have? Can we at least know that?

You'ld be incorrect. Swamp Troll PM (for all versions of them) is currently 120 ranks. It'll likely become more dynamic (based more on their difficulty) as creature magic progresses.

All this GM straightforwardness is really starting to frighten me.Would just one GM please answer the next legitimate question with the acronyms we have become accustomed to(PAFO and NDA being my personal favorites).
And thanks damissak for the answer to the question.I wasnt sure if we as players would be getting this kind of information

So its intended for Swamp Troll's to be beating defensive magic cast by a 50+ Moon Mage?
Just curious, thats all.
Cause if it isnt PM, its something. Also of note, the last test I did of Arc Light (two weeks ago) resulted in me getting stunned when attempting to snap a min prep arc light against the same individual with max shear up.
Today, a min prep arc light not only got through, but it triggered his shear 3 diffrent times.
So what happened? Intended? Not? Confused? Yes.

So do some experiments. Arc light is a spell players have access to, so see what sort of skills/stats are required to produce equivilant effects from a warrior mage. If a player with 120 PM can't produce equitable results, then swamp trolls in one manner or another are obviously playing by different rules.
Personally, I don't like the idea of 'critter magic'. I think all critter used spells should be identical in all ways to player held spells, and that critters shouldn't have any inherent advantages of any sort over players through stat or skill when it comes to overcoming magic resistance or magical defense. If swamp trolls are given special versions of arc light, for example, then what's the point in having critters and players use the same rules in the first place?
By the way, has anyone tested trolls casting ability in bad elemental mana rooms? Do they seem to be as powerless in say, vague streams as would a player mage?

The goal, as I understand it, is just what you desire - that critters and players use the same stats, skills and spells by the same rules. If testing indicates that a mage with decent stats and 120+ PM can't get the same results, then I think we're just seeing a bug.

Why would Arc Light trigger Shear? (I know that in PvP it does, just wondering why.) If my interpretation of Arc Light is correct, the spell creates a flash of light that knocks the target off balance only as a secondary effect. I don't see why Shear would come into play, whether the flash is magical or mundane, and whether it is resisted as will vs. will or not. Or does Shear also react to Zephyr, which is the same kind of spell?

I don't know how many times I gotta say it <G>. Critter Magic and Player Magic are exactly the same. Uses the same code, based on the same stats, same skills, same everything. The reason critter's got their magic later was....we had the "Critter Casting Switch" turned off until we were ready to start handling all the bugs associated with a "new release."

Because Shear doesn't get triggered by light it gets triggered by magic, to cast Arc light you still have to channel the mana streams through the sheared person so that it would affect them (thus reason why you have to put up with their MR), Shear detects these nice little streams of mana flowing through it and rips them apart into tiny little shreds filled with nummy magi goodness.
And yes it affects Zephyr too, infact it affects all spells Except Shadow web, which I've bugged like 5 times already <g>
