Besides just pushing out more line after a cast, does PUSH provide any benefit? Like, perhaps, lessening the chance of pole loss when a fish is fighting?

Man, I thought this was going to be a request for fighting fishes. Like, betas.

That'd be cool, but I don't think it'll ever happen? Too close to cock or dog fights?

I seem to recall a GM saying that the deeper the water the more likelyhood of getting bigger a fish. I believe PUSHing line out increases chance of getting a bigger fish, but by getting bigger fish there is more a likelyhood of the fish taking the pole.

I was thinking along those lines as well. One fishing trip I went on a couple years ago was frustrating as all get-out because every fish I hooked was subsequently bitten in half by king mackerel. At least until we decided to go out in slightly deeper water and fish for king mackerel.

So, I take it that PUSHing when you have a fish on the line serves no purpose and/or increases the chance of losing the fish (broken line, yanked pole, moby spitting out the hook, etc)?
