Ok...Barbarians need more brawling moves.
We should have special techniques besides Break Neck that put us apart from the other guilds.
I suggest the throw verb.
This verb should only be used when grappled, and (depending on strength and size of critter) toss them to pole or missile range.
Another is the smash verb.
This should be used when at melee with 2 or more critters...it should pick 2 of them and try to ram them together to do damage to both of them. OR smash them into objects in the room, say a corroded pine skippet for example :)
Please take heed to this...GM's can be quite creative as can be seen.

WHAT?! Your the ONLY ones with brawling 'moves'!! If anything every guild needs the same brawling moves, some with some advantages but everyone should get SOME new ones. I think it is rediculious that a barbarian should be able to do so much more when brawling then anyone else.

I shoulda timed the response to that post. While I too am a barbarian, I've seen this hashed so many times I knew what the response would be, almost verbatim.
My personal thoughts are let everyone have a brawling ability, then give barbs a different one. However, the GM's have mentioned that brawling is so far down on the list to be worked on that the light from the list won't reach it in a lonnnnng time.

Yes, we can all do the standard brawling moves, but the special ones that can be done with 0 ability, like breaking a neck are only for barbarians... I don't see why a barb with 10 brawling can break a rats neck, when I with 50 can't. and yes, i know another guild has a brawling move, but that is circle based, I was speaking just regular abilities that aren't attained.

>but the special ones that can be done with 0 ability, like breaking a neck are only for barbarians
Not entirely true, but I think in essence you are correct.
1) You have to have significant strength over the critter.
2) You have to have your hands empty, and therefore significant evasion to survive the time it takes to snap the neck.
If you are really all that concerned about this, why not petition for your own guild's move? Tell me what guild you are, and I can tell you a good move for it.
For example, moon mages can beat a rat silly with their spellbooks. ;)

How about y'all being able to use an arrow in melee combat while brawling? The arrow won't last long like that, but y'all can whip up more.
Or just be able to beat them to a pulp with your bow, and use the pieces of the bow to make a campfire, and the string a rabbit snare.

I still get a snicker every time I think of Hymel's suggestion for our brawling move. The corn cob flying sunset maneuver, where we leap from the lower branch of a tree with some wild corn in our hand and drill it into the back of our opponent. :-D
But in all seriousness, I still think Rangers should get something akin to Indian leg wrestling. <drool> I may be on the ground now, bub, but you are about to be joining me and THEN I will break your neck ...

I know this is old... but I would like to see for the guilds to at least get a brawling move that is on par to the barbarians choke move.. one that we can utilize for brawling and do serious damage... Some of us train, or have trained brawling to a reasonably high level, are not barbs... and would like to crush our foes. Bards in particular should get something along these lines(the only REAL bar room brawlers :P)

A couple of thoughts on that...
1) Choke sucks. It's fun for the first ten minutes, but, as always, Circle/Eblow then Draw, rinse, repeat, teaches better, and still reigning champ for weapon+brawling experience. <g> You will find at least one of my posts stating this in every brawling thread. <big grin>
2)If it's between completely rethinking and fixing the brawling moves so the co-exist with the rest of combat and getting new moves, I was the fromer.
3) New does not necessarily mean better, even if we're not allowed to use it (choke, duel sniping, etc.). Most of the skills we have can be harnessed to make them any skill you would want. (example: Trip would be nice, but till then, bind a key to GRAB LIE DANCE GRAB, last grab optional)
4) I have to respond to that last comment. <g> Almost makes me wanna get into a bar room with ya. <g> So, let me get this straight, if I fight drunk people, with bottles, chairs, and stools, I'm going to me more skilled than fighting a sober critter with sharp pointy things and wants to kill me badly, at close range? I would have to say I'd be against Bards getting a brawling bonus. Why? Only reason is I work hard to brawl this well, I have a +1 STR penalty and am not Prydean (no pointy brawling weapons). I'm a warrior mage, meaning I'm one'a the combat guilds, frontline style, and I dish it because my terts say I can't take it. <g>

What I could see, would be if a drunkenness system ever came about, bards would get major bonuses to drunk fighting.

Ever see Drunken Master (I think that was the title) with Jackie Chan?
>>Personally, I think at best it would be less of a penalty to fighting drunk. Which sounds reasonable.
Though a bonus would basically be a counter to the penalty, I guess I wasn't real clear on it...not like it matters, I haven't heard about drunkenness happening any time soon.

First of all, thats fiction.Second,Jackie Chans character was not a bard.It seems like you guys are really stretching to give bards abilities. If anything, this ability would encompass barbarians(dunken,berserk..),but it still sounds silly.

Can't we please get off the idea that anything that's remotedelly combat related belongs to barbarians? I would have to agree with bards receiving this immaginary skill that is being discussed like it was real. Mainly because Bards are the ones always around taverns, where alcohol is consumed and tempers flare. The Inn was at one time, the place where information, nourishment, enterntainment and "entertainment" could be found. A bard is in his habitat when in an Inn. Too bad DR doesn't encourage the use of Inn's that much though.

I think what he is trying to say is that any mundane combat skill that comes out is barbarian territory, the skills may be shared with other guilds depending on the type of skill (bow skills shared with rangers, stance bonus shared with pallies and warmies), but the barbs will get the skill since mundane combat is what defines our guild.
Skills like snipe and backstab are the exceptions since they rely more on hiding and stalking than the actual combat skill.
Least that is the way I understand it.

You guys do realize his claim is like me claiming that all magic is owned by the warrior mages. Heh, the barbs in no way own combat. Only thing I'm jealous about is their weapon forging bonus, but because I learn mech lore at a much faster rate, whoop-de-do. Thinking your guild ownz an general category OOC is a rediculous idea, and the GMs do not support it.

Neither of which is a guild specialty. Anyone can smith, and will be able to even better with Smithing 2.0. Also, traders and thieves have a passive resistance that seems fairly noticeable as well, as I've heard.
