Ok, first off I'm not an empath, but, I have an idea to give them an oppurtunity to RP a little more during invasions or during hunting trips out on the field. i would like to see this idea promoting group hunting trips, and used during invasions and war to create safe rooms where folks can get healing and mems/raised when and if that comes back.
So here's the idea, a spell or some type of ability gained by an empath that would create a healing tent in an area, how long it stays and what you need to create it are decisions for the gm's so i won't get into that this is just the basic idea.
Now, this healing tent is not in itself protection, it requires the assistance of other players to guard said tent against critters trying to gain entry, so..as long as the tent is guarded and so long as the guards live, the tent is safe for those inside. If the guards fall however, those inside are fair game and the tent falls down for example or collapses and stuns everyone inside or something tricky like that.
Ok, now you say well, that's easy we'll just have a pallie Bot the room the tent is in so that the guards never fall, personally i think that would be cheating. I think the tent should negate any other room protection spells such as Banner of Truce or the one clerics have to <sanctify?> a room from attackers thus allowing Empaths with a way to contribute in a non healing manner to invasions, hunting parties, and during war time.
of course in all things there are finer details of which I leave it to the rest of you to contribute. I just hope that someone out there sees this post and says hmmmm...interesting and maybe someone decides to make it happen. I think it would promote hunting in groups, it would promote a sense of community among people, and it will allow empaths the chance to go out and adventure more even if they don't want to stand and dodge all day while their friends kill stuff.
Thanks for Listening to me,
Darthor

Well either way, I still think Banner or room calming of any sort would defeat the purpose of this "Tent" and would be cheating in this particular instance. The idea is to promote teamwork by having the guards outside and the empaths and whoever inside both striving to help the wounded by healing in a safe enough environment, and by guarding those who do that while still leaving the element of danger whereas the "tent" could fall if the guard fails. it may also help to create a more realistic scenario in a war or invasion RP event, I mean a bunch of wounded sitting in the middle of the street make very easy targets for bowmen in the real deal, and surely if BOT doesn't help, this is at least an interesting alternative.

<but i don't really see a spell or ability that could create a tent...
Well, I suppose if it were a magical tent... =p
SOmething like what the warmies have with the fortress.. =)
-Hansley->>
I think that is why you saw the use of quotes around tent. Implying just some sort of safe place.
Btw, seems like a good idea in principle, but I'm not familiar enough with BOT and those spells to know where the use of this ability by empaths would be greatly needed.

Greetings Darthor.
>fafrahd helped come up with this idea, and if someone does take interest in it he had some other good ideas to go along with it, maybe he'll post them here i don't know. Just didn't want to go without mentioning his part of this idea.
No worries, Darthor, I'm not feeling possessive about my ideas and it's more your idea than mine. I just merely contributed with one or two suggestions.
And from what I can recall from our discussion, you pretty much summarized everything I discussed with you, so I don't have something to add to what you wrote. Only to say that I LOVE the idea and I think that it would be great for Empaths who badly lack nice and new spells.

Oh, that's right. Well, if you really were serious about combining guilds, a moon gate'd get in there. <g> But I see what you mean. However, people get killed/hurt pretty quick in invasions, I'd hate to see this fluid defense suddenly disperse. Talk about empaths under pressure, huh? <g>
-Zakarious, who misspelled 'heal' in the last post, sheesh... now that's pretty bad. <g>

<<<I'm sorry, but why not just get a Warrior Mage to cast an FOI and hieal in that?>>
Because the injured folk that need healing cant enter it from the outside?
Sovalis >>
This problem is easily addressed by having the mage send a familiar outside the fortress. Someone outside can pet the familiar, then the mage can cast FOI on them to bring them inside. There are limitations to FOI, to be sure, but I think it would be worthwhile to try to work with something that already exists in game, rather than discarding it because it is not a perfect solution in favor of something that doesn't even currently exist.

First, I don't think the idea was intended to replace or throw out FOI, but rather to grant the empaths a neet new ability.
Second, I think it is a cool idea and I would like to see it implimented.
Third: My improvement (though this could be completely seperate)
I think it would be neat if 2 or 3 empaths could join their magic forming the 'corners' of a 'healing field' or possibly join other willing individuals together to create such a field (they would have to be willing)
For those who form the 'corners' of this 'field', there is a drain on both spirit and concentration any time they are forced to take an action other then mantaining the 'field' and if one of these stats reaches 0 or the 'corner' is killed the 'field' collapses. So others would need to protect the 'corners' to maintain the 'field'.
However, while the 'field' existed, individuals could enter the 'field' and be safe from all attacks from those outside the 'field'. Critters also cannot enter. But if the 'field' collapses everyone within take a serious stun and losses half their harness capacity as a result of the magical backlash.
Finally, all empaths in the 'field' receive two bonus. First, the mana withing the 'field' is always substantially better then the mana in the room where the field is located. Secound, wounds are transfered much more quickly after the initial touch.
Such a 'healing field' would be powerful, but with the sever restictions on the corners, I think it would also be balanced. It would require a great deal of teamwork, but it should provid a substainal benifit, particularly in field healing.
Just my two kronars. Thoughts?
