Can't wait!!!!
Maybe sometime you could post up a list for everyone, what spells are "Done" and what spells are yet to be worked on, so we know which spells not to bother griping about <grin>.

For Paladins, as far as I know, Shatter is the only one of the currently released spells being 'worked' on. I still want to make HOW refreshable to make it more usable.

>Hoping smite foe gets put on that list lightly stunning an adanf even using MO is kinda on the weak side.
What are you casting at? Benzali, 34th circle paladin with 170s PM and 26 discipline, really has no business being there, but knocked a fresh A'danf mage completely unconcious with a 20-cast, then killed it by snapping off two 10s. This was with a 20-prep MO up. Of course, since I died there two times trying to repeat the experiment, ::mutters something about swarms with pole-range weapons:: I only had that one set of casts to go on, so I might have had a bit of good luck on that cast.
Also, I usually wait until I land a solid or better hit and then start snapping 10s during my real hunts. With a little damage before hand, you can do a LOT of damage with Smite Foe. I will admit, though, that the stunning aspect is still lacking when compared to the old spell. That is what Halt should be for, if it wasn't for all the strange restrictions on it that make no sense.

Re: Shatter on 07/10/2002 10:07 AM CDT
greatly bolsterd with MO castin at over 30 on a fresh adanf resulted in a massive hit with a light stun. and was battered. Sorry but i really hate the way it works now. Didnt like the way smite shield got better as vit got lower and now smite foe does the same. If i can already take its vit down by hitting it why do i want to cast the spell?

>resulted in a massive hit
Snap a 10-prep or two and the thing would be dead after a hit like that. I don't see the problem. You just need to start casting more than once instead of relying on doing all the damage in one cast.
>If i can already take its vit down by hitting it why do i want to cast the spell?
Cast it between strikes to allow the spell to play off the damage your weapon does. Your weapon will drop vit, making the spell more effective. The spell will stun, making the weapon more effective.
The way it works now is much more balanced than it was before, while still allowing a paladin with mediocre magic skills to use it whereever they hunt. It just takes a bit more precision to use it now, both with regard to mana and timing.
As closely as I can tell, the spell checks your discipline and mana used (perhaps PM, as well) against your opponent's remaining vitality and assigns it to one of four tiers of damage levels, randomly choosing one in the range (ranges are estimates, not factual): no effect, brushing-light, solid-massive, overwhelming-apocalpytic.
To use the spell perfectly, you need to always cast at the minimum mana needed to reach the range you want. I haven't collected all the data I need to perfect my usage of the spell, but I can get more than spectacular results from my simple estimates. When I want to kill something with Smite Foe, I usually cast 20 (solid-massive), 10 (solid-massive), and 10 (overwhelming-apocalyptic). I could probably bring the 20 down some for the same effect and the second 10 up some for a kill, but that is what I work with now.
Oh, and as a comparison, it also took me about a 40-prep SF to kill stuff before, but now it is spread across 3 casts for less harness consumption. It is also faster due to snap-casting.

used to take you 40 to kill something id kill adanf with 24 ive used it several ways including smaller casts in rapid succesion they spell is still on the weak side, Up the stun lenght or put in a knockdown. You'll see as you go up the ladder.

PS The lightly stuned critter is always out of the stun before my casting RT is up. which is most times 3-5 seconds
