Hey Rigby, what are the chances of making shear selfcast only. Its pretty weak how all the other guilds get nothing but benefits from it, where as we suffer a huge penalty for having it on us. It's unbalanced if you ask me.

I like being able to cast Shear on my friends.
You're asking to have the spell changed because some few people are abusing it, the change will effect everyone, including the people who like it the way it is now.
I'd rather see other issues regarding Shear be addressed first. (like duration, and effectiveness against certain spells)

Locking out one book would not change how WMs are invinvible with that spell on. Nor does it deal with sheared barbarians.
It's unbalanced.
By the way, ES and aether cloak go WAY beyond any perceived caps as far as protection goes. An ES on a low level WM can so incredibly destroy the strength of my DO and Burn, with 700 PM, 300+ TM and good stats at level 99, it's disgusting.

Man you are sick Fatal. ::drools:: Um anyways heres the thing Eldrad, shear is probably the most powerful anti moonmage spell we hardly benifit from. This is because other guilds can use it without any penalties, but when we use it we have to give up some of our most powerful tools. I have a love/hate relationship with the spell. I just think it should have either a universal adverse effect, or simple be made only selfcastable. Its not a good day when a moon mage hates one of his spells because of how its used in the hands of other guilds. The keyword is unbalanced... You're right though too, its buggy and thats not helping.

The only way this is happening is exactly how Chisoni put it, if another Moon Mage is casting it on them. This spell will never truely be "in the hands of other guilds". Frankly, Im in agreement with Eldrad on Shear.. my problem with it is how spells like an Etherial Shield preped low can cut right through any Shear. These are the issues that need to be addressed first.
I don't like the idea of a "pet" Moon Mage being used just to cast Shear on other characters, but thats really a very very rare and small issue. First, understand that it takes considerable skill to cast this spell with effectiveness. Second, all the pre reqs just to get this spell would make any Moon Mage more then just a "pet" character in order to be able to go after this spell AND cast it effectively.
Just my 2 Dokeras.

Trust me its not rare in TF. You might not care since you play prime how unbalanced it is, but in a world thats pvp orientated this spell, cast even by a weak (in tf terms) pet MM, can single handily shut down any moonmage of any circle. I mean what would you do if you're a moonie and you're fighting a barbarian equal to your circle that now has on him the greatest MR ever to grace the land of DR without any penalties. Or lets use warmages for example. They have ES, but ES isn't the end all be all... You can get around it or get through it. Shear isn't the end all be all for Moonmage either because of its sever disadvantages, but those penalties don't translate onto other guilds, and thus our own spell is now the single best weapon against us. Doesn't seem right to me. And the answer to this problem is so simple. Either make it selfcastable only (which I perfer). Or give it universal penalties.
I don't think its fair one single spell can shut down a guild like this. What are we supposed to do, pull out a sword and try to fight melee then? Thats laughable with the way our guild is set up. I also don't think its right that someones 200pm shear can prevent someone with 500+pms attack, but thats a whole another post.

With an ES 'and' Aether Cloak up (which any PvPing WM will have), Your only chance to hurt a WM with magic is to knock them down (if you're talking about relatively equal ammounts of skill). While this is possible without a Shear on, when a WM has a Shear on, You're stuck.

CRS on a WM with ES and Aether Cloak up does zilch.
Dont tell me to stop whining unless you're expecting a conflict, in which case take it to a different folder.

That depends on which spell you're casting on the sheared person. Calm seems to get through without weakening shear much at all if you use enough mana (I havent tested this in a while) while none of MB will get through unless you give enough to break it down completely.

Tezirah's Veil is excellent for breaking Shear (not as good as barrier spells, of course). Try casting that on them high. Incidentally, Moon Mage's are the only ones who can prematurely end Tezirah's Veil. So if it's not on another Moon Mage, they're at a severe disadvantage if you use that to break through.

once the shear is gone its just a matter of multiple crs, while they may dodge some of em, multiple snap cast of CRS are more effective when they only strike once as the fient causes them to go off balance after a few fients the rest start pounding em
course they can't keep up AC and continously cast, a weak AC won't deflect alot
but yeah shear+AC+ES makes you pretty much a giant magic absorbing tank
