I am a Prydaen that has burned through about 20 cigars trying to perfect the dragon but can't get past the deformed lizard. Any input on what more I can do, if anything, or if I can ever get better?

then said olvi has to demonstrate the image and you have to attempt to make the image until you get the messaging to the effect that you've learned that image.
the messaging for smoking the image is:
inhale my <pipe, cigar>
then Exhale line <image>
You cannot abbreviate the name of the image to be taught or smoked.
To find out what images you know, type Smoke list. There are 19 images that olvi are "born" knowing, and 2 additional images that have been taught and found their way into player knowledge.<phoenix, web>
There is one additional image that the person who knows said image is unwilling to share with others in the prime instance. <bracelet>

I know all 21 public images as an Elf and yet even at all their top levels they still just don't do it for me. We should be able to spend plats or TDPs to learn to smoke better than our race allows in DR2.

The maximum level a human can reach is level 3--a "whiffler" if you use 'smoke list' to see your skill levels.

humans don't get "whiffler", non-olvi get different "ranks" that correspond with the olvi level.
beginner, amateur and adequate are the 3 levels <1, 2 & 3>
S'Kra and Prydaen can only get up to level 2.
Rakash in moonskin can only get level 1.
Everyone else <other than olvi> can get to level 3.
There is no non-olvi corresponding level to level 4.
Olvi get level 5 <master> and level 6 <master*>, whereupon they can teach it when get to level 6.
