Cudos to all who worked on it.
I know my 188 in appraisal isn't high enough to get weights most of the time. Usually I'm getting 'feels heavy' or 'feels light'. So for non-traders, how much appraisal do we need to get it really working? I'm assuming 200 the weights should start showing up more consistenly. But 250 or 300 for certains in weights?
And am I right in assuming that appraising the item quick teaches more?
Overall, thanks.

This strikes me as a little silly. Knowing how much something weighs (a constant) should come before knowing how much it's worth (a variable...very much in the eye of the beholder).
I'm glad weights were added but it's backwards that I know my shield is worth 30 lirums but only have an idea as to it's weight.

I disagree...Its relatively simple to learn how much objects are worth. Yet quite difficult to accurately guage the correct weights of items, especially when the weight of one item is only slightly different from the weight of another. Misinterpreting the weight of items is a commonly known psychological phenomena...

My take on a non trader and getting accurate weights.
I have around 210 app skill
On a fluff item a coat I am wearing here or three apps.
1 You wonder if the captain's coat weighs around 15 stones.
2 You guess that the captain's coat weighs about 70 stones.
3 You are confident that the captain's coat might weigh a few hundred stones.
So all over the place.
Now on say a Weapon I have 250 in. Here orr three apps
I know the mace is 54 stones on MAMA's scales
1 You think it is likely that the deep purple mace weighs around 60 stones.
2 You think it is likely that the deep purple mace weighs about 55 stones.
3 You are certain that the deep purple mace weighs around 50 stones.
So it would seem weapons ranks assist app in determining there weight and fluff apps or all over the board.
I will find it usefull for Merchant weapons on Racks though. To app enough and get a close weight range. Instead of having to buy it first then find out.

Misinterpreting, yeah, but not wildly. I mean, even if you had never tried to guess the weight of something before in your life, you wouldn't think a spool of thread weighed 1 pound one day and 20 the next. Or that a suit of armor weighed a few ounces.

And I disagree - perhaps in an economy like an American RL one, it would be easy - but not for medieval type economies... I still think item worth should be tougher for non-traders. As a ranger, I wouldn't think I'd keep up too much on what folks are willin to pay for stuff... What am I doing - hitting a market once a week to keep up with item prices? Perhaps thieves should get a bonus to price apps as well.
