One less chapter - a bug or a bonus? on 09/23/2003 11:10 PM CDT

Well, I've been back over several months of posts in here, to try and find out if the 'glitch' that causes a spellbook to show one less chapter to a reader who is not of the Guild that Spellbook pertains to, is actually a bug, or simply a bonus to those of the specific Guild who's spells the book contains.

I can't find anything beyond confirmation that this does indeed occur, so if anyone knows and wouldnt mind enlightening me as to which it is, I'd be much appreciative.

actually it depends on if you are the OWNER of the spellbook, <I.e. the original purchaser>. I have a paladin spellbook, as does my more paladinly "brother". we both read our respective "spellbooks" the same.

Schvartz, the locksmith paladin...

~Weak of arm, lousy roars;
terrible aim, awful health;
broken fingers, no real stealth;
leave em dead, cause you cant do more;
lost your coins, on the floor;
greetings! now you're out the door~

Hmmm, that doesnt seem to be the case with mine though, Schvartz.
My empath sisters spellbook was purchased a few months ago from the original owner, so the name on it isnt hers and she reads all 6 chapters in the contents. When I read it, I only see 5 chapters total. The chapter on 'Protection', simply isnt there. I also had another family member (a cleric) read it, and she also could only see the 5 chapters, no Protection chapter once again.
Heres an example:

This is being read by an empath: (Note: not the original owner of the spellbook)
>read spell
>

*~ Table of Contents ~*

Books of life magic employed by the Empath:

Chapter 1: Healing Chapter 4: Protection
Chapter 2: Body Purification Chapter 5: Mental Preparation
Chapter 3: Life Force Manipulation

Arcanum and Lore:

Chapter 6: Healing Reagents

>turn spell to chapter 4
You turn the lustrous silver parchment pages to the chapter entitled "Protection" in your silverwillow spellbook.
>read spell
The graceful black calligraphy on the lustrous silver parchment page of your spellbook reads:

~* Spells and Knowledge pertaining to Protection *~

Page 1: Sphere of Protection Page 2: Innocence

And this is the same spellbook being read by a non-empath (Me):
>read spell

Chapter 2: Body Purification Chapter 4: Mental Preparation

Perhaps its only the Spellbooks pertaining to Life magic then? I read an earlier post by someone stating that their Ranger spellbook did the same thing when read by a non-ranger.

I really just want to be sure if its a bug, so I can then actually post it as such, or a bonus to those of the relative Guild of the spells in the book.

With the ranger spellbook that I have, my empath sees 1 less chapter than my ranger does with it. However, all the spells are there. THey just seem to be shuffled about differently. I'd have to double check to be sure, but i believe this is the case.
