Hm, I been takin' a nap for a while, but I woke up and decided to look at a spellbook that I won, runnin' the maze. Low and behold can't study it. I guess its blank. Am I doin' something wrong ? Thanks for any help in advance.

It may be that your spellbook was one of the rp ones. Both types were prizes from the maze. Basically the rp ones allow you to use the various spellbook verbs but, not study (and therefore learn scholarship) from it. The rp ones had a definate look to associate it with the guild it belonged to such as; 'blood red cover with a pair of outstretched hands cupping a jadice flower' for empaths.
Additionally, I thought the real spellbooks given out as prizes were in the form of a token/voucher. However, I could be, and very likely am, wrong about that.

None of the spellbooks given out during the runs were useable to learn scholarship (i.e. RP purposes). Some people did receive vouchers for a spellbook when the merchant returns. (Ok, naysayers. Forget the if comment. I am confident it will return. Just not sure how long it will take).
