Hiya, I recently bought a spellbook from someone and the crystal killed me when I tried to pick it up, the owner removed the crystal for me but I would like it to be back in the book at some point to complete the spellbook, does the crystal ever run out of charges? how can you tell if it does? I have seen crystals in spellbooks that the owner didnt buy from the merchant just from another player and they dont seem to have the problem with the darn thing killing them, any ideas?
Thanks in advance

<<does the crystal ever run out of charges?>>
They do eventually run out but I have no idea how long they last.
Might wanna take a look at the spellbook to see if you can even use it though. Last I heard the ones that could use the crystals were usable only by the buyer.

There are several different kinds of crystal that could be placed into the socket, most of them were anti-theft, like the kind that blew up in your face, but one kind was anti-weather, just invoking an ES variant that kept the rain off. They do, eventually, run out of charges, but there is no easily visible indicator, other than focusing on the crystal, of telling.
Note that the custom spellbooks will have someone's name on them, and only be lockable/unlockable by bloodlocks, so new owners are not usually going to be able to lock their spellbook.

would like to add a note that Warmages can recharge the crystals if they were to run out on ya.

A giant skeletal claw rises rapidly from the mire, lurching outward to grasp at you! You dodge lithely aside!

Its the bloodlock that prevents that, it can only be operated by the purchaser of it. it can be removed and set aside and different lock can be inserted. For example besides the bloodlocks, other plain locks were sold, the new owner could remove the non functioning bloodlock and place a plain type lock on the spellbook and it would work.
