Lets get to the heart of it.
You can pick any weapon to train. You can pick any fighting style. At a certain point you need 6 ranks of a weapon a circle to advance and I am fine with that.
Thanks,
Jent
PS I would have wrote more but it appears I have to meet a client at 5 am this morning. I'll add more comments tomorrow.
Weapons Follow Up. on 06/01/2001 06:00 PM CDT
There have been some good suggestions made so far but I'm really not looking for suggestion on what to change it to at this point. Like I said I am fine with it as it stands now, if there is really a need for a change someone is going to have to explain it to me and do it in a mature manner. You folks can rant all you want but that is doing nothing to make me change my mind.
Being a Ranger is hard. I like it that way. If you think the weapon requirements are unrealistic then tell me why. So far there have been a few points made that I kind of agreed with but most were sandwiched between some angry words or made up quotes/points from me that I never said.
One last thing, besides the no no with guild comparison, don't mix in survival in this equation. We will talk about survival skills later this weekend.
Thanks,
Jent

Weapons Change on 08/14/2001 09:35 PM CDT
Heyo,
Okay so I thought long and hard on this one and I have decided to make a change to the weapon requirements needed for advancing within our guild.
Sometime around the 1st of September you will see a changed rolled in for circling. I am giving some lead time into this change for a few reasons.
1. I wanted to give you time to absorb this change and for the min/max folks out there a chance to reset your calculators.
2.By the time the change happens you should all be done thrashing me on the boards and nasty e-mails.
3.I will have time to address your concerns prior to the change with hopes of making you understand that I believe this is a net positive change. We shall see. :-)
Now to the change.
The overall change means that you will now need more weapon ranks then you had previously. With the old way you needed a total of 495 ranks for level 100th. Now you will need 770 total ranks.
:Cackle!!!:
Okay before you go nuts here is how it breaks down.
At 75th circle a Ranger will pick up a secondary weapon requirement. This requirement will be 3 ranks in a secondary weapon. (One secondary weapon not an average of an assortment of weapons) The 3 ranks per circle is not grandfathered, meaning to advance to 76th circle a Ranger needs 3 ranks of a secondary weapon multiplied by 76 circles or 228 ranks in that secondary weapon. (3 ranks x 76 circles=228 ranks)
So let's talk about this in a little more detail. Here are some of my thoughts.
I believe that a second weapon is more fundamentally sound for a guild which focuses on the ability to survive. The need for you to be fluent in more than one weapon is paramount for you to survive in the many unknown challenges that may face you as you continue to progress.
I also believe that many of you already train more than one weapon as way to balance your training and not fry your skull. For those of you that have not trained a second weapon this is one of the reasons it starts at 75th. At 75th the change doesn't have a huge impact on the guild as say a change at 50th. If you are racing towards 50th and have neglected training more than one weapon you will still have time to adjust before 75th.
Lastly, the introduction of a second weapon requirement allows for a logical change in the primary weapon requirement.
The new primary weapon requirement to advance after 75th will be 5 ranks per circle.
So for level 100th you will need a total of 470 ranks in a primary weapon and 300 ranks in a secondary weapon.
470 prime + 300 second =770 total ranks needed.
Okay, I will try and stay active for the next few days here and deal with your questions and concerns.
HAVE FUN!
