An event will be taking place in the game starting on or about Wednesday
(May 20th) and lasting through Monday (May 25th). Off and on during that
time events will occur that you may or may not want to be involved in.

If during this time, an event takes place in your area/room and you do not
wish to be a part of it, it is suggested that you log out of the game. Any
player remaining in the area/room during an event will be considered a
willing participant.

Regards,

I want to comment on a statement made about the governments arresting characters for casting offensive spells while in town.

We did think about this. In fact at one point before the war started I authorized the the cities to allow casting in the cities. That decision was appealed to me by several GMs, including two Senior GMs who will remain nameless since the end decison rested with me.

Their point was two fold...first, from an IC standpoint, just because the Gorbesh were ransacking the town that didn't mean the government was going to tolerate it's citizens contributing to the destruction. The point? You don't drop an atomic bomb on one of your major cities just because you're losing that battle. The Gorbesh were the evil here, not the players.

The second point, and the one that persuaded me the most was, the Mages have the "out of city" areas to fight in...when it gets in the city you are now down to melee and hand-to-hand combat, because of the confined quarters, and that's where the melee fighters should fight.

Consequently I doubt very much you will ever see the ban on casting in the cities lifted. Call it the "bane" of the mage...that just how it is.

And before I close here, I want to state again....the cities don't have armies guys. YOU are their army. The cities have a small police force for dealing with public disturbances and individual criminals. They are not prepared to handle a seige by an organized army. That's your job, that is why these cities put up with you. :)
