Since it has been several weeks, and in a effort to stop this thread before
1,000 follow-up posts are made which Zoha and I do not intend to read, the
gweth situation is as follows;
The kyanite gwethdesuan and jadeite gwethdesuan still exist in the game and
will continue to exist in the game. They are now very rare items. If you
still have one consider yourself fortunate.
Kyanite gwethdesuans and Jadeite gwethdesuans are now usable just as they
always were with an increased but small chance they will break.
Lantholite and Sjatmal gwethdesuans are uncommon. They work just like the
Kyanite and Jadeite Gewths respectively with the exception that they
require rubs, each rub is limited to 10 minutes, and there are a limited
number of charges in each.
The Waermodi and Lasmodi gwethdesuans are the complement of the above
respectively with the exception they are listen only. Each rub provides 1
hour of listening, and will work with with the Kyanite, Jadeite, Lantholite
and Sjatmal gweths concurrently.
The Waermodi and Lasmodi gwethdesuans are VERY common.
I know exactly how many of each of these gweths are being introduced into
the game...I also know there is a great deal of hording going on at the the
moment, which is to be expected, just as not hording them will come about
when people realize they are available.
The Waermodi and Lasmodi gwethdesuans allow, as was requested by the you,
the players, the ability to constantly monitor the gweth for emergencies
and necessities. The other four gweths allow you, as you feel it is worth
it (given their limited number of uses) to respond on the gweth.
If you do not currently have a a gweth, then it is your character's
challenge to find one if you desire one. Gweth ownership is not and never
was a player/character's right. It was the reward afforded as the result
of finding something special on a creature or in a chest. The fact that
one could buy a gweth in a shop was a mistake on our part that has since
been corrected.
I have tried to explain several times, that the reasons for the gweth
changes were many, and certainly not an issue of any single point. Overall
it was changed because Gweth usage was out of control.
It was never intended that it be used as a cliquish chat channel.
The scroll had gotten so bad that people who needed to use it for intended
reasons no longer were. In fact, they weren't even using gweths.
Screen scroll was so bad, the GMs could no longer monitor the gweth and do
their jobs.
The OOC conversations on the gweth were completely out of line. And in
some cases still are.
Players themselves were begging that something be done.
Now, everyone keeps pointing at my comment concerning "resources." The
linear interpretation by those that took that to mean the computer system
could not handle the messaging were incorrect. The system could and in
fact could handle much much more than was being generated. The non-linear
interpretation that some more accurately arrived at, was that the man-power
and programs that would be needed to monitor the gweth and enforce policy
as it existed, were resources we chose not to expend.
Whether or not the Gorbesh attacked, the gweth system was changing and in
reality, all those who are upset about this change might note had it not
been for waiting on the Gorbesh War mechanics to be finished, the gweths
would have changed months earlier with a more simplified event.
So here we are. And here is where we'll remain for now.
If you have a dire need to chat, there is IRQ, ICQ, and the coming Simu
equivalent to IMs. The gweths as they exist provide the means, while
throttled, to have the same Gweth capabilities as before, without forcing
irrelevant and needless chit-chat on those who are not interested in it.
This is phase one. Phase two will be to release the player auction system
where players can take their items to an auction house and have them
auctioned off. At that point, when the auction system is available, we
take steps to stop auctioning on the gweth-net.
These two phases alone will reduce the amount of gweth traffic to a point
where the gweth can be monitored, and vulgar and OOC uses can be stomped on
quickly and with malice. :P
Yes, I am aware there are some of you that don't have gweths you can speak
with, yet. But when the hoarding stops, and things shake out...you will.
I am constantly monitoring where we are at with these, and even made
special changes to the treasure system to see to it that they are fairly
and evenly dispersed. If I need to tweak it up a bit I will, if we
determine there are too many out there we'll tweak it was well. Regardless
we will not be selling gweths again unless its a preplanned merchant event
of some kind.
