With the initial release a player will only be able to own one horse. That means when a Ranger goes out to capture a horse he/she won't be able to if they already have one. Same goes for Traders and brokering. They won't be able to buy a horse from someone else if they currently own one of their own.

This may or may not change as the system grows and develops.

My vision is that some Rangers and Traders would work together, capturing an animal and training it then selling the trained animal to a Trader who would then sell the fully trained mount to another player.

Other players would maybe just capture and animal to train it for their own personal usage. Or use a Trader to hold the skill-trained animal that they desire for a personal mount while going off for the occasional wild horse safari.

Like I said above though this may change as the system develops more and as more systems tie into it.
