Had a low turnout for the intended tiers. In the 1st to 10th tier, Velencia won by default. No one showed in time for the 11th to 20th tier, and in the 21st to 30th tier, Darach topped Zartam.
After that...we held some platinum grudge matches. Two competitors entered, each paid a plat. The winner got their plat back. Several folks took part in this and had great fun.
An exhibition fight was done when Ambassador Ketrianna stated she'd fight to whomever donated 100 plat. Ternith donated the coin, and then surrendered to the Ambassador graciously.
Another exhibition fight then took place between Miach and Lord Oleveir (hopefully Lord Oleveir's guard doesn't read this!). A handy smackdown was handed out by Lord Oleveir.
Finally we had a King of the Hill competition. Hikuro started as our champion and defeated three of five challengers until Ternith defeated him in the fourth trial. Ternith was then defeated by Lord Oleveir after Ternith offered a nice donation for the Lord's participation. Lord Oleveir then handily trounced his next four opponents, winning overall champion of the hill. His gracious Lordship offered to donate 100 plat for each victory to the arena funding as well!
Overall, with the 500 plat held in trust by Lord Oleveir, we raised over 1000 plat tonight alone! Thank you to everyone who came to play, and special thanks to our empathic staff who kept everyone up and running and to Lord Oleveir for his most generous donation!

Lord Oleveir had this really nice spear that he used with good effect to give Miach the holy effect.

Don't be dismayed because you saw a GMNPC totally dominate players - it's not like they have to train, and almost universally they have artificially high stats and skills (come on. Since the nerf to HT, has ANYONE done that kind of killing to ANYONE else with HT?). Wyren was basically the last GMNPC that showed up that could be touched by PCs.

Lord Oleveir's presence and choice to compete in the games last night was all in the name of sport and competition, an air which dominated the night. The Gladiator sport can be akin to an art form in the hands of some. While Lord Oleveir is not the noble who I'll be mainly dealing with in helping to raise the money for this arena, he certainly seems to enjoy a good bit of sport fighting.
I for one was glad to see him take on challengers and offer a bounty of 100 plat per win, which is being held in trust by Lord Oleveir until the construction crews are hired. Even nobles are allowed to enjoy a bit of sport now and again. He did indeed dominate the King of the Hill contest, but no real prizes were at stake there other than the platinum band I awarded to him at the end. Had anyone else mastered 5 fights as King of the Hill, they would have received the same prize.
I had hoped for someone from the Baronial family to come and observe, and found it highly entertaining to see the way Lord Oleveir motivated others to challenge him in the arena. In the future, I won't begrudge a local or visiting noble from competing in the games. Inside the arena, it's all about the skill, talent and luck it takes to win a fight. All political ties and other issues are left at the door when the combatant steps onto the sandy floor.
One person told me he held back against Lord Oleveir as he felt there would have been repercussions had he defeated him in the arena. To that person I say that had you defeated him, I would have stood with you and defended you should anyone have chosen to raise an issue. Sport fighting is about the game, not about politics.

As heir to the House of Theren of course Lord Oleveir would be highly trained. Should anything happen to his brother Baron Gyfford he would be next in line to rule the province. As he stated at the competitions he is not as highly trained as his brother who often defeats him when they practice. As a noble and a gentleman he also would have accepted defeat graciously and congratulated the winner. All that enter the arena abide by the same rules be they commoner or noble so there is never any need to "hold back".

I think that is so amazing that a noble showed up with such good sportsmanship, a desire to help out the fundraising and even participate. I really had a great admiration grow for the Baron and the Prince during the Outcast war by watching them on the front lines instead of sending out their armies and staying at home. My respect for the Baron's brother has grown as well. I tip my hat to him and hope to possibly see him or more nobles this weekend or at future gatherings.

He appeared to be very polite and well spoken. I was impressed with his overall demeanor and conduct.

I just wanna know what the uber Spear o' Doom Oleveir used looks like and where I can get my hands on one.
~Thilan <--
LOL! It was a truly nice looking spear and even though I dont use spears I did suffer from spear envy. It truly demolished poor Miach when it was thrown at him, who took it well.
