I've found the combo of CLAW KICK PUNCH works great for training brawling....and claw is usable for all races though obviously more effective for Prydaen and Skra....

>Rmel: What are you using post 400? It is really slow for me just using the dancing technique which is what I would do when I rotate through my armors.

I bob while training multi, and I bob instead of dodge. When the skills trained by roundtime-accompanied actions are mind locked I replace that action with a bob.

As far as actually attacking w/brawling, I gouge, jab, punch, feint, kick, lather, rinse, repeat.

The defensive penalty associated with lather is ridiculous. Stick to rinse, repeat.

This is true.

At times I've been known to Feint Lather, but that's another story for another time and is generally not one I tell in public.

What are the best brawling moves for someone with significantly more agility than strength? Which should be avoided? Thanks.

With more agility and less strength, I would avoid shoving. Circling would be a good move to unbalance your prey, though.

I just started training brawling and I am sure this question has been asked before, but I am having trouble finding it. Is all gear basically the same or does it make a difference on damage. Example I have seen some gear on folks show spikes, other blades, etc. So they all cause the same damage?

I think that it would be a good idea if, during the complete rewrite of all combat systems, professional wrestling moves such as suplexes and piledrivers were added to brawling, perhaps as weapon feats or unlockable techniques. They would be moves that target specific body parts, for instance a piledriver would cause head and neck damage, a suplex would target the back, and you could also have non-finisher moves like an elbow drop. The possibilties are endless! Additionally, along these lines, the choke system could be expanded to include various professional wrestling submission holds, with the intent of causing either death (various choke holds), damage to a specific body part (armbars, leg locks, heel hooks), or unconsciousness (sleeper holds). There are a lot of other possibilities as well!

My empath has just awoken after a little more then a year and learns she can now fight constructs. I've always trained her in brawling, (she's just a baby 27th circle) my adopted father insisted but i'm not sure of the sequence of combat moves that would allow her to attack with somewhat consistent results and still retain her balance. I tried lookin on elanthipedia and olwydd's site but couldn't find it on either. I really want to train her properly. Might someone tell me what i can do to accomplish that?

Thanks

Is the character a prydaen?

Wearing any brawl gear?

None of those are actual attacks.

Just doing 'attack' will maintain your balance okay. If you want to really get into it, download the combat equipment compendium from drplat.com and check out the "master balance" tab.

The question was specifically related to an EMPATH brawling sequence for balance. Hence: no attacks.

The question was specifically related to an empath brawling sequence for balance against CONSTRUCTS.

For constructs try:
dodge claw elbow punch slam

with an edged weapon:
dodge circle elbow jab kick

alternative:
circle jab kick slice elbow slap

Easiest place to pick up brawling gear if you want to use it is a trader's table. To get it a lot cheaper try Boar Clan.

Slice
Punch
Claw

seems to work pretty well, I haven't paid too much attention to my balance though TBH

I use gouge/slap/claw/elbow (gains balance) jab/kick/slam/slice/punch/sweep/dodge <--- This combo I worked out using the combat guide mentioned before. Some attacks are neutral such as sweep and slam but you will drop balance if you follow a slam with a jab. Its very fun working out combos and I really hope to see much more done with the brawling system.

As a martial artist and someone who is fairly decent with small arms such as sticks/blades it would be sweet to see the brawling system fix grappling and get into stuff like trapping/parry attacks ( like a parry to the wrist) and maybe making sweep attacks knock down or even a FJK from pole range yes flying jump kick. I have a ton of ideas as to how we could even make some guilds have more brawling specific moves so some guilds could have there own martial art or brawling style.

Under the most recently stated plans for the combat rewrite, combos will be going away.
