What I want to know is...
with all the changes that have come about, and that are on the way...
WHEN, oh WHEN are you (Simu) going to allow the PLAYER to readjust his STATS to accommodate the new system?
so far there have been 2 major changes that i know of.
the first was when STRENGTH gave you your RT. i myself, and many others, invested heavily into STR versus other necessary stats for the lower RT on their weapon to facilitate that previous system of hunting.
Strength was taken out as the majopr factor and it became AGILITY/REFLEX.. and yet the Characters were left to struggle to adapt to a new system that was completely out of what with the way the 'universe' ran.
then mentals were hit. and again, people were left stranded to fare on their own in yet another non-role-play event.
and now its happening again??????
I'm sorry, but its starting to get stupid. making the characters invest in one way then changing it to another without any recourse?
Game longevity is one thing, but when you keep leaving the characters and players stranded as you switch one system after another... its a joke.
its not roleplay, and it cant even be fit into roleplay because there is no way to adapt without months or years of backtraining.
its like saying that the universe changed how gravity worked in an instant. Now you float and cant get to the ground. And then you have to try to act like it has always been like that even though all these buildings are on the ground that no one can get to.
I am sorry, but the universe doesnt work that way.

Considering, A, GMs have said for years to balance your stats...and B, its Strength/agility for weapons so that strength isn't wasted... I wouldn't hold my breath. That whole post sums up why I never try to powergame or metagame in an evolving game world. You never know when somethings going to change.
A few of the changes caught me at bad moments in a few of my characters careers, but in the long run, I'm better off now that I've adapted.

Or, just simply play for fun and not try to jump on a bandwagon every time one comes around. My character's stats are far from balanced, but it doesn't bother me much whenever something changes. Be a tank, keep trucking. Unless you're specifically trying to exploit a soft spot in stats by overtraining one for whatever reason, the changes won't hurt you much. If any change has good reasoning or is done for a good purpose, then no matter how hard it is, sometimes you just gotta move on.
Grandfathering in general is a terrible choice in my opinion.

Yeah, but not everyone wants to be the cookie-cutter balanced character. Anyway, I don't see how the recent changes made a negative impact on unbalanced stats. If you role-play a specific low stat character, then you accept and embrace the challenges that offers. Either balance your stats and be average, or unbalance them to be good and bad at certain aspects.

well I neither expect, nor advocate grandfathering stats, but at the same time, I feel the pain. Like the original poster, I had pushed strength hard back in the old days so I could get lower RT's on heavier weapons. Then the changes were rolled out, and suddenly it wasn't just Strength, it was also Agility. This was a plus for those who had focused on Agility but a hit for those of us who had focused on Strength.
We rolled with it. Most of us who still went with strength heavy, resigned ourselves to focusing on less balanced weapons, but still could look forward to heavy weapons. But, with the changes, you need Strength and Stamina to be much more in line. For Heavy Thrown it appears you need Stamina to be closer to the weight of the weapon you are throwing- so figure 40 stamina for the lightest blunt throwns. Ouch. At 60th circle, my stats range from 30-40, and probably average out at 35. Not a bad spread. But in order to use HT effectively I will have to train stamina up now a good 9 points- or maybe just relegate HT to a hobby weapons set. I can train stamina up, or forego that big heavy blunt or heavy axe, and just stick with the generic forged lightweight. Yeah I can work around it, but I can't say this makes the game more interesting or more fun for me. I don't think it makes the game 'better'.
I think the stamina hit is too high and should be scaled back. I think the hit for HT is really bad.

Strength : 50 Reflex : 30
Agility : 30 Charisma : 32
Discipline : 30 Wisdom : 29
Intelligence : 30 Stamina : 40
Favors: 38
I regen all of my stamina between the second and third throw with 40 stone HT but it still gets me to "tired".
I agree that stuff like the stamina hit are pretty extreme and I wish strength played a factor in how much stamina it took, or if it is already a factor, a larger factor.
Throwing a hammer with 50 strength should take less stamina than throwing that same hammer with 40 strength.

Something funny I saw yesterday when talking to Ssra about some stuff...
Attacking poorly, a kobold fires a small rock at XXXXXXXXX. XXXXXXXXX evades, stepping aside in the nick of time.
The small rock hits a wall and falls to the floor!
The kobold collapses from fatigue!
The kobold feels the pain, too...

I saw some using sling as invasion critters during the last couple of wars.
Now, sluaghs and I believe treks use slings.
