It would be really...really nice to see some balance between the weapon classes. A niche for weapons that don't happen to be ME, HE, or 2HE, or bows would be...really great.
My complaint in a nutshell.

This, and also some balance between different types of weapons within the same skill. Not every ME/HE/2HE user wants to use a scimitar, bastard sword and claymore. Axes need some love.

I realize you're bored, but complaints like this don't really bring much to the table.

Only cause everyone's too busy using the aforementioned 2HE, HE, ME, or bow.
Magic's Death Caraamon Makdasi,

Alright then...lets try...
Any chance that the weapons forged under the new system will balance out the weapon classes a bit? Currently, there is a defined "best" set of weapons that seem to far exceed other in function in almost every circumstance, or perhaps a set of weapon classes is extremely under-performing. In the case of pikes, this is due to the lack of available damage. I am not sure about the case for slings or staff sling. I believe this is a direct result of specifically heavier edged weapons offering much greater damage per unit weight, offering attacks which enable great defensive position and shorter RTs, and including large amounts of impact damage which, among other things, causes equipment damage. A claymore, for instance does roughly similar slice damage to a full pike's puncture damage, but does a great deal more impact and weighs less. The narrow-bladed flamberge from Riverhaven or any greatswords have the same Pole-arm range as a full pike, more slice than a pike does puncture, on top of huge impact. Some balance would really be nice. I'd love a reason to actually use a non-sword weapon other than to be different. With the up-coming changes to lore-based creation, filling a hole in the market isn't a viable reason any more.
"Main" Weapon Classes:
ME - effective for both slice/stab, light, decent construction available, can be used for backstab, decent for skinning, one handed
HE - Great power, mostly slicing and impact (simultaneously), One-handed, decent construction, bastie is swappable and readily available, high-power movements encourage good defense
2HE - Incredible power, mostly slice and impact (simultaneously), great construction, pole-range available, can damage/destroy equipment easily, swappable and lighter-weight bastie available, high-power movements encourage good defense
Neglected Weapon Classes:
Sling - Only used them enough to know I don't especially care to, but they are only as fast as a normal short bow and generally weak. Nisha short bows load faster and do more damage. Ammo is heavy.
Staff Sling - See sling, also can't be player-made.
Pike - Some swappable weapons, (short steel spear is probably most common, which is both pike and ss, but its hard to come by), many throwable weapons, but due to the fact that they stick and perform poorly when compared to throwing hammers, they aren't frequently used for this purpose. Further, they are hard to store for starting characters. Most are 2-handed, and under-performing with poor construction. Aside from the ultra-light spear in Arthe Dale, they tend to be heavily outclassed in terms of output per unit weight. It is difficult to find a powerful combo using pikes that does not include "lunge", a movement that leaves you vulnerable to attack.
Shortstaff - Poorly performing, low output per unit weight, awful construction (I've destroyed at least one of every shortstaff I've ever purchased against young ogres' bucklers. I even broke one on a small peccary) and are extremely unavailable.
Requested Fixes:
1.) Allow for constuction of short staff weapons using forging/carving
2.) Reduce weight of existing short staff weapons, make them more widely available
3.) Increase construction of current short staff weapons to make them at least usable.
4.) Add impact damage to pike weapons to put them in line with edges of a similar weight, allow the impact damage to occur on puncture attacks.
5.) Reduce load times for slings and staff slings, decrease the weight of the ammo.
And finally:
6.) Allow for near-equivalent variation in the new creation systems for all weapon classes. Make them comparable in terms of damage at given weights at cap, and cap at comparable skill. Near equivalent numbers and ranges of titles would be a very small plus as well.
There, now I've added some suggestions to my complaint. That help anyone?

>Only cause everyone's too busy using the aforementioned 2HE, HE, ME, or bow.
Not really, there was just no substance other than negativity.
When I was complaining about certain weapon classes being weak, I did actual testing. On the other hand, MELLONM6 relied on the fact that everyone knows certain weapons are weak. Well, if everyone knows, you aren't really bringing much to the discussion.
Based on my tests, I concluded that halberd and quarter staff are underrated, but need better starter weapons. Twohanded blunt is viable as long as you start with forged. Crossbow isn't weak, but it is painful to train. Unfortunately, slings are still really weak even with forged and the new ammo. Short staff is in a class of its own.
>Alright then...lets try...
Much better :)

I don't have any posts saved or anything, but I know I've heard it said more than once. Just keep your fingers crossed, hold your breath, and click your heels a bunch of times.
I'd love to see Pikes and Staffs be legitimately useable weapons.

P.S. I know you take a lot of grief at timeth for your lithpth, but I for one find them incredibly entertaining. Keep up the good work, you make the game more fun and interesting for me.

Heh. The grief doesn't bother me. I just double up on the number and length of "S" words I use when I respond.
Thanks. :)
P.ETH. You forgot a "t" in "pothtth," and left an "eth" in "crothed."
