Um... don't you gain 1 defensive point for every 5 attack points you drop?

I'm pretty sure that's not a bug.

The issue is that you can get those 20 points twice. Example below.

>stance
You are currently using 63% of your evasion skill.
You are currently using 63% of your weapon parry skill.
You are currently using 63% of your shield block skill.
You are attacking with 100% of your offensive skill.

>stance set 63 63 63 0
Setting your Evasion stance to 63%, your Parry stance to 63%, your Shield stance to 63%, and your Attack stance to 0%. You have 20 stance points left.

>stance set 63 63 83
Setting your Evasion stance to 63%, your Parry stance to 63%, and your Shield stance to 83%. You have 20 stance points left.

>stance set 63 83 83
Setting your Evasion stance to 63%, your Parry stance to 83%, and your Shield stance to 83%. You have 0 stance points left.

>stance set 63 63 83 100
Setting your Evasion stance to 63%, your Parry stance to 63%, your Shield stance to 83%, and your Attack stance to 100%. You have 0 stance points left.

Heh nice. I didn't know you could get it to work with attack 100%. They semi-fixed it so you can't jump right in, but I guess there's a work around.

Or you can get 40 extra points:

You are currently using 100% of your evasion skill.
You are currently using 100% of your shield block skill.
You are currently using 21% of your weapon parry skill.
You are attacking with 0% of your offensive skill.

> stance attack

You are now set to use your attack stance:

Attack : 100%
Evade : 100%
Parry : 0%
Block : 81%

You are brawling.
You are currently using 100% of your evasion skill.
You are currently using 81% of your shield block skill.
You are currently using 0% of your weapon parry skill.
You are attacking with 100% of your offensive skill.

I really hope just the bug is fixed.

Awww the stance attack save doesn't work for me.

> stance attack save
Your attack preset is now saved as:

Attack : 100%
Evade : 100%
Parry : 0%
Block : 100%

> stance attack
You do not have enough stance points available to use this preset!

It does either for me. That was just to quickly put me back into a 'normal' stance.

perhaps im seeing this all wrong, and i probably am. but, this seems more like an issue with the high end hunting areas than with the stances. why would you expect to learn parry against a ranged creature? seems...off to me. but if the only hunting area available at that skill level is such a hunting ground that has ranged and melee attackers than there needs to be a similar skill level hunting area with only melee creatures. that way you all in that range can train how you desire without flipping stance switches over and over and risking gettin one shotted in the process.
