Sorry, should have changed the topic, open rolls and loot are not related in any way (that I know of...)

Anyway, my point is if it's not prohibitively difficult and will still help, organizing things the same way as junk is currently would be a better approach to the "full page of loot" problem. Other solutions - in fact better ones - exist, and have been proposed before, and may even be in the works. Off the top of my head I know that requests have been made to have critters drop, say, 3 bronze instead of 32 copper, etc.

Just giving my opinion; all those "junk coins" do add up to a lot during the lower circles. I remember back when I thought 10 plat was an insane amount of coin, and every copper counted.

Heck, even if the janitor DOES come more frequently, I'd still like my suggestion to be implemented in an effort to reduce screen clutter a simple LOOK GEM or LOOK SECOND PILE to see what gems are there to be picked up would be sweet. Provided of course it's not too hard to consider coding.

Also, on the topic of getting loot as it drops, remember that a few of us hunt with other people regularly, most of us hunt in swarmy areas on occasion, and many overhunt at least a little; any of those situations make the loot-as-you-go approach a bit more difficult than it would normally be. Dual-wielding also stops you from using that method if you're busy fighting any still-living creatures in the area, since you can't stow without a free hand.

I'm pretty much the low-circle character just described who's only now starting in sprites, and I go from none to burdened if I pick up all the boxes and wear the backpack. They're perfect for me right now fighting-wise, yet it takes me hours and several poisonings and shocks to open those boxes, but I kind of have to if I want to be able to open boxes later on, too. (Plus I like the mystery of what's in them, dangit.) So... yeah. If I berserk and can't retreat, do I have to either lose my boxes and loot to the janitor, or do I have to stop fighting every time I get burdened and then spend an hour opening boxes? :\

So, with this new cleanup, will the janitor get my backpack if I leave it on the ground to put boxes in to take away?

If the boxes are that hard for you to open, I'd recommend backtraining a bit first. It shouldn't be that hard.

Yes, the janitor will eat everything except a wayerd pyramid (and only then if it is closed).

JMF90, can you explain why you are against the idea of organizing loot in piles rather than having the janitor sweep it all up? Just curious.

I never gave an opinion on the subject. I responded to the poster "BRATONA" who said that it took hours to open boxes and much healing, to which I replied that he/she should backtrain box skills, as it shouldn't be that hard. I then helped clarify the way that janitor mechanics currently work.

I don't know about JMF90, but I'm against it because the game still has to carry all that loot in memory even if it is organized into piles. That creates lag. If you want it, pick it up, if you don't, let the janitor take it. Boxes are heavy, so figure out how many boxes you can carry before getting overburdened and go pop them. Some people feel like they can't pop boxes until they have a full backpack, and that's kinda silly. Besides, as a barbarian, skinning is an easier and much more important skill to work than popping boxes... just my 2 cents.

Sorry JMF90, I must have misread/misremembered a post somewhere. Anyway...

I don't recall any lag problems in recent memory, other than when the treadmill next to my computer starts up and kills the wireless, but that's another story...

Lag simply doesn't effect me enough for me to feel comfortable with the chance of losing anything, especially anything important/valuable that is placed/dropped/left on the ground, intentionally or on accident... if a player can call the janitor, that works for me. I'm not altogether comfortable with the janitor coming frequently, especially since I hunt with up to four other people at the same time (That's rare, but it's almost always one or two others at least). It is ridiculously easy to lose messages in the scroll, especially with warmies in the group. Hunting with two or more warmies is very scroll-happy most of the time, heh.

True, most people don't seem to hunt in groups, but I don't see the need for more lag reduction if it could potentially cause people to lose things.

Armadillo claws or whatever they give don't go for very much.

Its the same as any other item in game... if you dont want to lose it, then pick it up.

Again, if you're hunting in a swarmy area or with other people you may not see the janitor message, and if you're using a bow, crossbow, or thrown weapon it's pretty common to miss one of the arrows, quadrellos/bolts, daggers, etc.

It's just my opinion, of course, but it will take a lot more to change my mind than "If you want to keep it, pick it up." While completely reasonable under the old system, when the janitor only rarely seemed to show up, it sounds like it will now have a significant impact on hunting.

Remember, I still have yet to see the system at work, so we'll see how things go. I'm confident that our good GMs know what they're doing, more or less, so don't take what I say here as one of those "Oh noes! DR is d00med!" posts. Just offering up my concerns and a possible alternative if this doesn't work out so well.

Make sure you highlight your arrows, bolts, etcetera, and use a macro or script to retrieve them.

I berserk; when I'm not hunting with a script I just highlight the name of my ammunition, and use a macro to get steel pulzone/rput my steel pulzone in my quiver/r. Hit the macro until the highlights stop, and you'll know you're done.

Nice idea about the highlights Rmel. I've used the same macro before just spamming and checking for when the messaging changes from you pick up to you get.

May I take this opportunity to once again ask for higher level critters to stop dropping so much copper and bronze? I'm not even to anything like an upper tier of critter and it's already a little out of hand sometimes. I just leave the copper and take the rest if I'm moving around while hunting anyway, all it does is add to room spam.

While it would be better to have critters drop more higher denomination coins instead of a mountain of copper, I'd be happy if you just removed the mountain of copper. A little less profit, but a lot less clutter.

Also, could coins be added to an existing coin pile automatically when you loot a critter, or a DROP ALL (COPPER/BRONZE/ETC)(KRONAR/LIRUM/DOKORA/COIN) command be added?

Not an earth-shattering problem, but one that I bet a lot of people would love a fix for. Thanks!
