When dual wielding eventually comes out everyone will be able to do it right? And just the size of the weapon you can use in the off hand will be decided by your skill sets? Going to start training a weapon now just so I can off hand it and I don't want to find out later its going to be a guild only skill.

I meant the "real" dual wielding, where you do double attacks with a release date TBD.

No, he means real dual wield. Two weapons, one in each hand, attacking with both, that is not Barbarian-only. This was the entire "idea" behind introducing the offhand skill.

That was the original plan, yes. I haven't heard anyone mention it as part of new combat however.

Though I was really just being snarky, can you explain to me the difference between 'real dual wield' and whirlwind?

Other than the expectation that you won't need 300+ ranks and 30+ agility to use 'real dual wield'?

Granted ww has random benefits like hitting things in hiding and removing webs, I don't really see much difference.

The last I remember hearing about 'real' dual wield, that had been put on a way-back burner because of the sheer complexity of coding.

Still, off-hand is trainable- and indeed, I've been having a blast with that with a baby char! I've found that LT hits harder with my off-hand than with the normal- and meanwhile the said char is working on gathering the coin for throwing blades, just cause!

At least for me, this does not happen :-)

I train LT with both blades and a throwing mallet.

If this is true, then it's a bug. No matter what your level of Offhand skill, it will never factor in as higher than your weapon (i.e. if OH > weapon skill, then OH = weapon skill for attack purposes).

Do you have a link for this GM post? I couldn't find it. I thought effective ranks from off-hand attack = .7 x Offhand + .3 x Weapon

Well, now it still allows you to use your offhand so it's not useless. It's nice to att with the right hand and then throw with the left etc. It definately was more useful before because you could use a lower weapon in the offhand (with higher offhand) and get better results hitting something you normally couldn't or had a hard time to.

I sort of agree with the change though, it doesn't make sense that someone could just train offhand skill and be proficient in every weapon in their offhand. Literally they could by-pass all the other weapon skills just by learning offhand. (except bows\2handers)

Right. The additionally training benefits basically were a good reason to keep offhand trained up in prep for the far-off someday of dual-wield.

The only reason I use it is a RP flair with LT from being able to chuck knives from both hands.

The difference between "Dual Wield" and "Whirlwind" to my knowledge is that Dual Wield may not give the functionality to attack everything at Melee and/or Pole weapon range, whereas Whirlwind does.

The scheme behind dual wielding weapons has changed so much that I honestly have no clue what the game plan is now. The idea has gone from introducing separate RT's for each Arm and then having a separate Body RT, to using the greater of RT's between weapons in your Left and Right Hand, to some other calculation TBD.

Personally I hope the system is fairly robust and has the typical "ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK" functionality for people who don't want to delve into the more intricate details. I also hope they give thrown weapons dual wield functionality.

This. Being good at using your off hand should not make you perform better with a weapon than when used in your main hand. Ever. As good as if you have the skill, sure. But not better off-handed than used normally.

That's what I remember.

It could be that I simply had a run of luck. I'll try normally later today: Right now, the off-hand skill of the character in question is slightly higher than her LT.

It's a bug. It might be limited to thrown weapons, but there are definitely people using offhand to train weapons on creatures they'd never hit throwing it with their right hand.
