Okay, so out hunting with my new lightened bo-stick and gave the thunder rams a go as they are just above my current ranks. Had stance set to parry, which pretty quickly destroyed the stick and lost the strap. Fine, boughht another stick (stance lesson now learned, luckily still v close to El Bain's!), but really don't fancy the trip all the way south for another strap from Shard. Is there anywhere a bit closer to El Bain's to buy a strap?
Thanks

Weapon strap falls right into line difficulty wise as a headband, meaning 'simple'....think I was able to to my first one between 20-30 mech, cant remember back that far to be sure, but I know thats one of the first things Izzy ever tanned.

What would I need to buy in order to make my own then? And are all the parts available in and around El Bain's? Sounds like a bit of fun to become more self-sufficient!
I currently have about 40 mech lore so should be sufficient from what you say MTiT Izzit?
Thanks for the offer Rayje - I'll hold it open for now if that's okay?!
ttfn!

You'll need the pattern, a pelt/hide/skin, tanning lotion for hides and skin, tanning potion for pelts, bodkin, tannin shears and thread. Check this link for more info on how to do it.

Sure. Use a blood wolf pelt. I think that might be the easiest, but holler if you still need a strap.

Haha! Great advice guys - just completed my first cougar-pelt weapon strap! Not too shabby a job either - it has no extra descriptor so according to Olwydd it's right between home-made and elegant! I'll have to try another few to see how they come out. Much happier now I know I can just make a few up, too.
Does the process of making an item teach much? My mind didn't really seem to change in any area, though I expected to see some mech learnt?
Thanks again for the help, and introducing another area of the realms to me!

Yes, particularly for more challenging pieces. Also keep in mind that scraping teaches quite well. The biggest reason you might not notice large jumps in mind state when tanning is that the process is quite time consuming, plenty of time for your skills to pulse.

Curing is the only step that DONT teach anything, woulda hoped for at least some mech but it seems that anyone can rub some potion into a pelt. But ya get yer weapon skills from the hunting, skinning from skinnin and scrapin the pelt, and mech while tannin the thing.
But it is correct that the bigger and better the piece, the better ya learn.
