I was using the Hara'jaal nightstick until a week or so ago, when it broke on me. When I couldn't find anyone selling a new SS in Xing after 3 days, a friend said they would get me one from the Xing Barb guild.
That has got to be one of the worst SS's ever. I thought the Hara'jaal nightstick was bad, but this nightstick is crap! I train SS a lot, and I need to find a better one. I mostly just want the impact damage, and decent balance, but Ill take any advice right now. I don't care if it weighs 200 stones at this point.
I removed it from my typical weapon training a few hours ago. I need to find something better before I train it again, hopefully soon.

How many ranks do you have?
Welcome to the world of Short Staff. It's perhaps the most frustrating weapon to train. My vote for 'worst weapon ever' still goes to Staff Sling, though. Hooray for being EXACTLY THE SAME AS A NORMAL SLING only weighing sixty stones instead of five. And no, you can't parry with it! Yay!
You are Malkien, a dashing Barbarian. Huzzah!
You are Apis, a legendary Cleric in your own head.
You are Ragesong. What sort of Kaldar is a Bard, anyways, doofus?
You are also Pellazan (WM), Essatariol (Ranger) and running out of sig space.

Might try this
Short Steel Spear in SS mode Fair/Poor/Fair Fairly/Poorly MS 35 stones
Yes you are sacrificing some impact for puncture, but that's not a bad thing in the SS combo. Mod Strong is nice too. Downside is the poor balance, but well try it. This weapon is found in the special merchant To The Teeth, which recently visited the premie sea caves.

The short steal spear is very good. Also, you might try the iron prybar. I think Ciressa might still have one on her tables in Haven. Head up that way and look her up. The prybar is perhaps the most sturdy Short Staff around. The steel spear is nice because it actually has puncture damage, which, for the combo that I use, works a lot better than the standard short staff.

You get an ironwood nightstick studded with tiny steel thorns from inside your somber black haversack.
>
>compare pry with night
You are certain that the iron prybar is a little stronger than the ironwood nightstick.
You are certain that the iron prybar is less balanced than the ironwood nightstick.
You are certain that the iron prybar is somewhat less suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength than the ironwood nightstick.
You are certain that the iron prybar does about as much puncture damage as the ironwood nightstick.
You are certain that the iron prybar does about as much slice damage as the ironwood nightstick.
You are certain that the iron prybar does about as much impact damage as the ironwood nightstick.
Iron prybar is definately not the best. Guess its back out to Hara'jaal for me, unless I can find a short steel spear in Theren.

Short steel spear is a fest swappable from the To the Teeth tent. It recently came by in the Seacaves, might be able to find it on a Trader table for cheap.

The good part about the prybar is construction, which you didn't post in your comparison. When I log in later, I'll go get the construction off that prybar to post. While some of the SS may have better damage stats, the prybar has the best construction, IIRC.

get night
You get an ironwood nightstick with a black sharkskin grip from inside your blood-red pack.
look my night
Faint etchings along the length of the nightstick curl around the steel thorns, as if the weapon had been made by winding a mass of briars together.
app my night
An ironwood nightstick with a black sharkskin grip is a short staff melee-ranged weapon.
You are certain that it could do:
no puncture damage
no slice damage
moderate impact damage
You are certain that the nightstick is fairly balanced and is fairly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the ironwood nightstick is fairly sturdy, and is in pristine condition.
The ironwood nightstick is made with metal.
The ironwood nightstick feels pretty light.
You are certain that the ironwood nightstick is worth exactly 35000 lirums.
Roundtime: 8 seconds.

That is the nightstick from the Barb wagon at the last Merelew festival. All of the weapons in there were very similar to the ones in the Barb weapon shop... only better.

Ok, sounds like I need to find one of these then. Have you compared that one to the one from Hara'jaal? Since they are both mod impact, I wonder if there is a vast difference (low-end to high-end), slight difference, or the same. Also, if they are the same, how do the construction's compare?

>>Ok, sounds like I need to find one of these then.
Make sure it has a sharkskin grip. The one from the Barb shop looks very similar and I've seen at least one confused (or dishonest) Trader trying to pass it off as the Merelew one for bigger dollars.

I have. Unfortunately, I have away my Hara nightstick. I don't remember exactly how they compare. The construction is the same. Suffice to say that after the COMPARE I gave away my Hara one, and that one is now in my vault. It's not leaps and bounds better if you can't find it, but it is better.
