I love the insignificant hindrance on my gargoyle-hide shield. But lately, after the 500th time repairing it, I've been thinking about going with something more durable and possibly medium in size since I'm a Barb and can arm worn mediums.

Has anyone messed around with forging shields with rare metals?

Uhhh....Everything needs repairing, so I'm a bit confused about this.

^This. I'll get all my gear repaired about every other day. It's not a big deal at all, but every armor, shield, parry stick, etc gets damaged. My weapons tend to get damaged less frequently, but I do my best to keep everything in pristine condition every couple of days.

If you use stick bows at all, stick with a small shield. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Barbs are immune to the arm-worn shield/bow accuracy penalty thing only if using a small shield. If you switch to medium you'll take the penalty.

Also, yeah, everything needs repaired on the regular now, so your shield isn't really the problem.

Barbs can do medium shields with stick bows if they're dancing eagle IIRC.

Barbs can only use small shields and receive no penalty. Only paladins can use medium with no penalty.

Capped durability might be impervious to standard wear and tear. Assuming it's not just a bug, I know my Extremely Resistant(14/17) claws from the last fest have never been repaired and I've worn them for for a very long time. Kind of a moot point on this question though since I expect that level of gear to be restricted to Fest/Auction/Prize and not player forged.

Croc and Shadow Beast Bucklers have better durability than Garg Shields if you don't mind the step up in Hindrance and Weight.

That's because brawling weapons are immune to damage.

The complaint probably stems from the now relatively low durability of tanned shields.

Course if you have deep pockets you can find yourself one of the old shields.

A Shuri-Kota or a Jouster or the Dragon Scale ones. They are 100stones each large shields very good protection very good durability AND low hinderance.

You are certain that it imposes minor maneuvering hindrance.

This shield is large in size.

You are certain that the shuri-kota offers rather low to great protection.

You are certain that it could do:
no puncture damage
no slice damage
great impact damage

You are certain that the shuri-kota is poorly balanced and is reasonably suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the reinforced shuri-kota is of average construction, and is in pristine condition.

The reinforced shuri-kota is made with metal.
It appears that the reinforced shuri-kota can be slung over one shoulder.
You are certain that the reinforced shuri-kota weighs exactly 100 stones.
You are certain that the reinforced shuri-kota is worth exactly 36080 dokoras.
You sense a deep connection with the reinforced shuri-kota, as if it will be with you always.

Yeah, jousting shield comparable to tanned buckler but protect much better.

You are certain that it imposes minor (4/15) maneuvering hindrance.

This shield is large in size.

You are certain that the shield offers better than fair (6/19) to very great (14/19) protection.

You are certain that it could do:
no (0/25) puncture damage
no (0/25) slice damage
very great (12/25) impact damage

You are certain that the shield is inadequately (4/13) balanced and is reasonably (7/13) suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the jousting shield is a bit safeguarded against damage (10/18), and is in pristine condition (98-100%).

It appears that the jousting shield can be worn on the left arm.
You are certain that the jousting shield weighs exactly 100 stones.
You are certain that the jousting shield is worth exactly 50000 kronars.
