Alright, tanned shields are now available again. In addition to fixing the density to hindrance ratio for tanned shields, I also tweaked it for metal shields slightly.
New shield appraisals are now live, and Paladins automatically get the higher-resolution appraisal like they always have. However, now anyone with sufficient skill can too (a score of 400 for most tower shields). A new line appears in your appraisal output when this happens :
"Your experience with shields allows a better appraisal of the protection capabilities."
Hindrance levels also changed to allow for finer detail that was lacking before.
Anyhow, please let me know what you think. Some misspellings are sure to exist :P

I'm sure Abison will be along, but I was unable to get said line with my Trader with 491 Appraisal and 226 shield.

So it appears, unfortunately. Also, Kodius crossposted in the Outfitting folder where nearly all the discussion has been, and I happened to read this folder first, as I read folders from bottom to top.
